Job Description

We’ve built a first-of-its-kind insights platform that is redefining the way the largest CPG companies, PE firms, investment banks, and management consulting firms approach consumer/market research.

We’re seeking a smart and ambitious individual with a strong educational background and demonstrated acumen in data analytics and quantitative research to join our fast-growing data analytics & consulting practice.

The Social Standards platform is leveraged at corporate strategy, growth investment, and product development teams at some of the world’s largest CPG brands, including Estee Lauder, Chanel, Diageo, Clorox, Kraft Heinz, Coca Cola, and Shiseido. Our capabilities are also used to support investor due diligence analysis and portfolio strategies for some of the most renowned PE and management consulting firms, including BCG, Bain Capital, Ernst & Young, KPMG, L Catterton, and TPG Growth. Additionally, Social Standards is leveraged across equity sell-side research and advisory teams at major investment banks, including Bank of America, Barclays, and Citigroup.

This is an exciting and unique opportunity to be a part of a growth-stage company that is on the cutting edge of social media analytics. At Social Standards, you will be challenged, and have the chance to learn and grow quickly.

The Right Candidate Is:

  • An energetic teammate seeking a client-facing role where they drive business solutions through data.
  • A naturally curious and self-motivated learner who loves to build new conceptual understandings of data.
  • A vocal and confident individual, who is not afraid to ask “why” A LOT
  • A sharp mind who loves analyzing data & complex metrics and loves building new technical skill sets
  • NOT looking for a data science, coding, product management, product development, or similar role

Role Responsibilities:

The Platform: Gain expert level understanding of the use of the Social Standards platform

Guided Access Workshop Sessions: Work alongside other members of the Data Analytics & Customer Experience team to execute live guided access workshops with clients and prepare analysis to extract meaningful insights from the underlying data to answer relevant business questions and guide further exploration.

Client Strategy: Apply critical thinking to client business challenges and opportunities; and work alongside other members of the Data Analytics & Customer Experience team to develop effective account expansion strategies.

Client Training and Professional Services: Work alongside other members of the Data Analytics & Customer Experience team to effectively train and develop customer users; independently manage customer relationships and provide efficient professional support.

Product: Support product development through feature testing and data QA; and support the product feedback loop by consistently relaying product feedback to the CTO, and the Engineering and Product teams

Thought Leadership: Work alongside other members of the Data Analytics & Customer Experience team to publish Thought Leadership pieces as part of our marketing and business development strategies.

Job Benefits:

We pay well. We offer salaries competitive with large consulting firms, and a great variable comp plan.

Healthcare coverage. We provide very robust medical, vision & dental benefits coverage.

Equity upside. You’ll get a stock option grant, allowing you to participate in the growth of the company.

Flexible work arrangements. We work under a primarily remote model with a lot of flexibility. All candidates must be willing and able to commute to our Long Island City office as needed.

Awesome people! Work with a super fun, incredibly intelligent, and wildly ambitious team.

Role Requirements:

● Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, Economics, Marketing, or another applicable field

● 1+ years of experience in management consulting, data management, business analytics, research, social media analytics or similar field is preferred.

Analytical skills: Highly analytical and adept at data modeling and manipulation to inform insight development. Very strong quantitative, data tabulation, analytical thinking, and data mining skills. Knowledge of relational databases is a plus.

Critical thinking: High aptitude and enthusiasm for complex problem solving. Ability to consider a variety of inputs, apply sound logical rigor to analysis, formulate and test hypotheses, and concisely communicate findings.

Data storytelling: Experience telling stories with data and/or experience in social/consumer insights. Strong understanding of data gathering, inspecting, cleaning, transforming, and modeling techniques is a plus.

Entrepreneurial mindset: Comfort in a startup environment with a dynamic, fast-evolving organization and strategic direction. Effective when working autonomously and with a frequent lack of infrastructure relative to larger software organizations. Enthusiastic about learning new skills and building something from the ground up.

Independent project management: Able to deliver on-time, high quality work with little or no supervision. Strong organizational skills, impeccable attention to detail, and the ability to efficiently multitask.

Tools: Working experience with business intelligence software (i.e., Domo, Microsoft Power BI, SAS, Tableau, etc.), and/or web or social analytics tools is preferred

Written and verbal communication: Strong, effective communicator with the ability to present original thinking in clear, compelling language – verbally and in written form.

● Exceptional interpersonal skills with a friendly and professional demeanor

About Social Standards:

Why are face mask sales exploding? Which craft beer brands are gaining popularity in the Midwest? What are consumers looking for in vodka? Which benefits & concerns are driving specific demographics toward plant-based meats? Is hard seltzer here to stay? A business’s ability to understand the answers to these types of questions before it’s too late is the key to whether they succeed or fail.

Here’s the good news: The answers to these questions and many more just like them can be found by examining the world’s largest unfiltered data set, social media. Each day, millions of people all over the world post about their interactions with brands and products, giving us a unique and authentic perspective on consumer behaviors and attitudes.

The bad news: Many social tools are not equipped to deliver clear and actionable answers to these questions. To gain an understanding of these posts, most brands currently use traditional social listening methods. Their ability to answer the questions falls short as social listening analysis is limited in its comparative capabilities.

The industry has been in search of a tool that can structure the world’s largest unfiltered data set in an easy-to-use comparative analytics platform. Enter Social Standards.

Social Standards has developed an industry-defining consumer research platform that harnesses the power of collective intelligence to deliver deep insights on consumer conversational data. The platform provides a powerful alternative data set that supplements market and investment analysis by driving a quant-based understanding of consumer motivations and market direction.

The platform is a first-to-market tool which structures the massive set of unfiltered conversational data derived from social channels into market vertical-based ontological relationships. These structured data sets are accessed through an intuitive, multi-screen interface – enabling true comparative analytics and relational mapping and allowing the user to dive deeply into the consumer conversation.
