- Performs other job?related duties as assigned.
- Conducts Internal Affair Investigations of alleged misconduct by government employees.
- Develops Intelligence and conducts surveillance. Prepares court cases for adjudication and provides testimony for judicial proceedings.
- Investigates crimes of moderate to severe complexity and reduces findings to written form.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
A minimum of three (3) years of law enforcement experience, at least one of which is with the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office.
Additional Requirements:
All persons will be required to complete a thorough background investigation to include, but not limited to polygraph, psychological, and physical fitness test.
All persons must successfully complete a minimum six (6) month probation period.
Knowledge of:
- Filing and recordkeeping.
- Current Microsoft Office software.
- Research techniques and report writing.
- Business English, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and composition.
- Confidentiality of information as pertaining to a public safety agency.
- Clerical office practices and procedures.
- Proper interviewing and investigative techniques.
- Pertinent investigative rules, laws, and standards.
- Preparing accurate, in-depth documentation describing physical evidence, crime scenes, interviews, and interrogations.
- Communicating effectively verbally and in writing and communicating orally in a face-to-face setting and by telephone with public and employees.
- Organization and adherence to detail.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public.
- Maintain proficiency in operating a variety of law enforcement tools, weapons, and vehicles.
- Keep management informed of key operating issues affecting the department.
- Remain current in knowledge required to perform assigned duties.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, employees of other departments, representatives of other organizations, County officials, and the public.
- Act with courtesy, tact, and diplomacy.
- Handle confidential matters and maintain discretion always.
- Manage situations firmly, courteously, tactfully, and impartially.
- Follow written and verbal instructions.
- React quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
- Apply contemporary law enforcement principles and practices to investigative work and analyze information, which can often be difficult and obtuse.
Work Environment:
The work environment is associated with an office and field environment year-round in all weather conditions, including crime scenes and autopsies. Includes exposure variety of hazardous conditions, such as decomposing bodies, strong odors, insects, hostility, emotionally charged situations, and child and animal victims.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Sufficient vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech ability to communicate effective in-person and telephonically. Capable of frequent repetitive movement of arms, fingers, and wrists. Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, balance, and lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Performs work that requires good physical strength and condition to apply restraining techniques, defensive tactics, react to physical confrontations and emergency situations, may lift and/or carry people, supplies, equipment and/or other heavy, bulky items. May be exposed to potential physical harm, bloodborne pathogens, and/or physical violence; may be required to physically restrain persons, and effectively deal with stressful and potentially life-threatening emergency situations.
