Job Description
POSITION PURPOSE / IMPORTANT APPLICATION INFORMATION

The Intern III – Graphic Designer is a temporary, non-benefited, hourly position that works closely with the Parks, Recreation and Libraries Marketing Team and Senior Graphic Designer to assist with designing a wide variety of print and digital marketing materials. The position requires the ability to manage a large volume of projects simultaneously, find creative solutions to design challenges, and possess knowledge of trends and best practices within the graphic design industry. This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited position consisting of no more than 1500 hours in a calendar year. The office location is City Hall, and work is hybrid (split between remote and in-office hours).
The full salary range for this position is stated above. Starting wages are dependent on the qualifications and experience of each individual candidate.

JOB SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS

Essential Job Functions, Duties, Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Tasked with observing established professional design standards and brand consistency across all department divisions
  • Maintains regular and punctual attendance
  • Assists with designing digital and printed promotional projects of varying complexity in support of Parks, Recreation and Libraries marketing initiatives
  • Assist with acquisition and management of digital assets (i.e. stock art, typefaces)

Incumbent is accountable for all duties of this job and other projects and responsibilities may be added at the City's discretion.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS/PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

Education, Experience, Skills, Formal Training, Licenses and Certifications
Required:

  • Experience performing complex digital color correction and photo manipulation
  • Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in the field of graphic design
  • Advanced knowledge of design software, including Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Acrobat
  • Must meet at least one of the following education requirements:
    • One year of college coursework or equivalent with a major in graphic design or a related field, or
    • Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in the field of graphic design
  • One year of college coursework or equivalent with a major in graphic design or a related field, or
Preferred:
  • Experience in booklet design (i.e. documents exceeding 40 pages in length)
Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience, which would provide the required knowledge and skills, may be considered.
Physical Requirements
Work is sedentary in nature and requires sufficient physical stamina and strength for:
  • Constant sitting to perform daily tasks; occasional walking through a multilevel facility to retrieve information; frequent standing sometimes for extended periods
  • Frequent squatting, reaching above shoulder and twisting to file documents and lift supplies and material; occasional bending, kneeling, climbing, balancing and reaching below shoulder to store documents, material and supplies
  • Constant light grasp, fine manipulation, and handling to perform daily duties; occasional firm grasp to safely use equipment
Frequent lifting, carrying, push/pulling of up to ten (10) pounds to move material and supplies; occasional lifting, pushing/pulling of up to twenty-five (25) pounds with dollies and carts
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is constantly performed indoors. This is primarily sedentary office work. Must demonstrate the ability to meet the physical demands of the job including the ability to retrieve information from various locations in the office when needed. Exposure to periods of high activity and high stress under demanding conditions. The position requires a great deal of communication with City employees, the public, and outside agencies.
Required Materials and Equipment
Operates general office equipment including personal computers, telephones, copy machines, and printers.
