The Senior Advisor, Instrumentation & Controls Engineering (ICE) is the primary provider of instrumentation and controls engineering support for development, construction, and operating projects within the Flexible Generation & Retail Global Business Unit (FGBU) in North America. The ICE is responsible for ensuring that proper instrumentation and controls engineering is utilized in all projects. The ICE also ensures that all instrumentation & controls systems within FGBU facilities operate reliably, supply the necessary data for proper supervision and control of project processes and properly transmit instrument and summary level data to all required systems, locally and remote. Emphasis will be on the SCADA, data telemetry, and process instrumentation to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant operation of Battery Energy Storage Systems and Green Hydrogen (GH2) production facilities.


This position will sit in Houston, TX and will report to the VP, Project Delivery, FGBU – North America. This position is open to a hybrid scheduled of both in-office and work-from-home days.

What you'll do:

  • The ICE is responsible for the instrumentation & controls support required for development projects within North America (Canada and the United States) consisting mainly of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and Green Hydrogen production facilities
  • The ICE is knowledgeable of and able to address a variety of instrumentation & controls issues including ICS backup and security protocols
  • ICE is responsible to ensure regulatory compliance with NERC and FERC obligations
  • The ICE is responsible for oversight, considering company policies and procedures, codes and standards, and regulations, of engineering consultants’ and other contractors’ instrumentation & controls designs and installation as required to deliver the assigned projects
  • The ICE is able to act independently with minimal direction and, as a project team member, must be able to work cooperatively to deliver quality instrumentation and controls engineering for a successful project.
  • The ICE is responsible for all technical issues and aspects of the project related to instrumentation & controls, SCADA, DCS, PLC, and data telemetry including the interconnection with external systems

What you'll bring:

  • Ability to be flexible with respect to work assignments and demands while taking initiative
  • A minimum of a four (4) year degree with a focus in in electrical engineering required; master's degree in electrical engineering preferred
  • A minimum ten (10) years experience in engineering, industrial, utility, or construction environments
  • A high level of Instrumentation & Controls expertise including electronic monitoring, process and plant control systems, data networks, and data telemetry

Essential Physical Abilities

  • Ability to use personal computer, calculator, etc.
  • Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and enter confined spaces as required
  • Ability to meet highest attendance requirements
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to travel independently to field locations across the US and Canada up to 50% of the time
  • Could involve some lifting
