UW Facilities manages the University’s buildings, infrastructure and land, with more than 1,100 employees in a variety of fields. The Asset Management group includes Capital & Space Management, Real Estate, Sustainability and other teams responsible for planning and workload management. The Operations group includes Project Delivery, Maintenance & Construction, Campus Energy, Utilities & Operations, Building Services, Transportation Services and Safety. Supporting these groups, as well as the separate Emergency Management team, are the Business Intelligence & Information Technology group and the Finance & Administration group.
Campus Energy, Utilities & Operations has an outstanding opportunity for a HVAC Control Technician to perform journey level work in the operation, inspection, testing, servicing and maintenance of mechanical, pneumatic, electronic and direct digital controls (DDC) for heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) of the complex building systems.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Requirements include:
OR four years of applicable experience in installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical and pneumatic control systems
Vocational or trade school training in control mechanisms may be substituted, year-for-year, for work experience up to a maximum of two years.
Additional Requirements include:

- Experience with fume hoods and bio-safety cabinets
- Experience in basic desktop computer skills, maintenance work request and work order programs
- Experience working independently as an HVAC control technician for a licensed HVAC contractor or as an employee of a public agency
- Detailed knowledge in working with the DDC systems from Johnson Controls, Siemens and Alerton
- Must be conversant with at least one of the following DDC control systems: Johnson Controls Metasys (PMI or ADS/ADX), Siemens Apogee, Alerton (IBEX or BACtalk)
- Five or more years of experience, as an HVAC control technician working with complex building and laboratory environmental control systems, with a wide variety of systems and in the repair, service, maintenance, and operations of equipment, components, systems etc.
- Ability to work independently to improvise necessary system component repairs
- Demonstrated ability to work with clients during building ventilation system shutdowns and inconveniences
Conditions of Employment:
- Must be able to be fitted for and wear a respirator on the job
- The position requires working with asbestos containing equipment, following proper procedures
- This position requires the wearing of personal protective equipment appropriate to the job task
- Must be able to follow all Washington State safety rules and regulations
- Must be able to work both independently and as a team member
- Must be able to lift or carry heavy objects, climb ladders, work in confined spaces, restricted movement areas, mechanical/electrical spaces, ventilation fan housing, etc. for extended periods of time and be able to climb ladders and work at heights
- The position is subject to callback outside normal working hours to respond to emergencies, and occasionally scheduled overtime
- Work in animal research areas with the proper personal protective equipment
- Regular and predictable attendance is required
- Must be able to communicate effectively with staff and on portable hand-held radios
- Must always maintain a professional appearance
- Must participate in medical screening/monitoring (such as TB screening and proof of measles inoculation) required for work assignments in locations, including but not limited to, nonhuman primate areas, the Animal Research and Care Facility, and the University of Washington Medical Center
- Must be able to work in a non-smoking environment
- Must be able to work outdoors under all weather conditions
- Must be able to work in a diverse workforce
- Must be able to respond to system emergencies during regular business hours and outside of regular business hours
- Additionally, approved safety shoes must be provided at the employee’s expense and worn on the job
