The Administration department of a faith-based non-profit organization is seeking a Human Resources Specialist to join their team. In this role, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of Human Resources, including recruiting staff, administering benefits, coordinating leave, and on and off-boarding employees. You will work closely with the President & CEO, operate within established policies and procedures, and bring HR expertise, integrity, and a desire to support staff as they minister to the homeless population of Whatcom County.
This position offers a flexible/hybrid work schedule and a friendly, supportive work culture. As an equal opportunity employer, we welcome applicants of all backgrounds, and we offer a competitive compensation package that includes PTO, paid holidays, medical, dental, vision, and life insurance for employees, a 403(b) contribution and match up to 5%, an Employee Assistance Program, paid training, and education reimbursement.
If you are passionate about ending spiritual, economic, physical, and social poverty and are committed to the Christian faith, we encourage you to apply. Our ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a closely related field, along with two years of work experience in HR or a combination of work and life experience that demonstrates an ability to fulfill all aspects of the job description.
Responsibilities include reviewing job descriptions, advertising job openings, screening candidates, and managing the hiring process; handling employment-related inquiries from job applicants and the public; providing insight and making recommendations to managers regarding personnel issues; maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations; coordinating annual performance and wage reviews; administering benefit plans; promoting a culture of safety; working with employees and managers to coordinate leaves and workplace accommodations; retaining appropriate employment records; helping plan and participate in staff events, trainings, and monthly all-staff meetings; and drafting all-staff communications as appropriate and necessary.
To succeed in this role, you must have excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills, as well as the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. You must also have a commitment to acting with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality, and proficiency in MS Office and Google Suite, as well as familiarity with basic HRIS systems. Preferred qualifications include experience working for non-profit and/or church organizations, as well as SHRM-CP or the ability to complete it within one year of hire.
As an outreach of Lighthouse Mission Ministries, successful applicants will show a desire to end spiritual, economic, physical, and social poverties with an aim toward restored identities and recovered vocations for the purpose of healthy relationships with God, each other, and the world. The majority of the work will take place in person in a standard office setting, with some flexibility for hybrid work. You must be able to travel between Lighthouse Mission Ministries locations and access and navigate each department at Lighthouse Mission Ministries facilities.
