Description
Building Services of America is a family-owned organization with over 500 employees in various states in the US. We are seeking someone who is highly motivated, friendly and has an approachable attitude to join our dynamic team as an HR Generalist. In this role, you will be assisting with daily HR operations, ensuring compliance with employment regulations, conducting investigations, and providing support to employees. This position requires comprehensive knowledge of timekeeping laws, payroll processing, experience in employee relations, conducting investigations, and general employment regulations, with a particular focus on Illinois labor laws.
Responsibilities
HR Operations: Assist with the day-to-day HR functions, including employee record management, benefits administration, and HRIS system maintenance.
Timekeeping Compliance: Assist with monitoring and enforcing adherence to timekeeping policies and procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, with a specific emphasis on Illinois labor laws. Stay updated on changes in legislation and communicate necessary adjustments to policies and practices.
Payroll Processing: Assist with timely and accurate payroll processing, adhering to wage and hour laws, tax regulations, and Illinois-specific requirements. Collaborate with Finance and Accounting departments to reconcile payroll discrepancies and resolve payroll related issues.
Employee Relations: Act as a resource for employees, addressing HR policies, procedures, and employment-related matters. Provide knowledgeable information relevant to employee benefits, eligibility, and laws governing employee benefits eligibility. Investigate and resolve employee complaints, partnering with relevant stakeholders to maintain a positive work environment.
Training and Development: Assist in identifying training needs related to timekeeping, payroll processing, and employment regulations. Help to develop and deliver training programs to educate employees and managers on HR policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
Assist with HR processes, including benefits administration, employee record management, and performance management. Ensure that all HR-related activities are conducted in compliance with relevant laws and regulations, such as EEO and anti-discrimination laws.
Policy Development: Assist in the review and updating of company policies and procedures to align with current regulations and laws.
Communication and Collaboration: Effectively communicate with employees, managers, and external partners. Collaborate with stakeholders to address HR issues, support decision-making, and promote a results-driven approach.
Employment Regulations: Develop a thorough understanding of Illinois employment laws and regulations to ensure company-wide compliance. Provide guidance and support to managers and employees regarding legal requirements, employee rights, and HR best practices.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Minimum of 5-7 years of experience as an HR Generalist, preferably in a senior or lead capacity.
Must be fluent in English and Spanish.
Extensive knowledge of timekeeping laws, payroll processing, and general employment regulations, with a focus on Illinois labor laws and employee benefits (i.e., 401k, insurance etc.)
Strong understanding of federal and state labor laws, including the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and the Illinois Wage Payment and Collection Act.
Strong experience with HRIS (UKG a plus) and payroll systems; proficiency in using HR software and MS Office suite.
Exceptional attention to detail and excellent analytical skills to review and analyze complex HR data for accuracy.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, fostering effective collaboration at all levels of the organization.
SHRM-CP or PHR certification preferred.
Demonstrated problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities.
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
