Job Description
We are currently looking to fill a Human Resource Generalist in our Allavista, VA (surrounding areas) office. The Human Resource Generalist is responsible for various functions of the Human Resource department, including talent, compensation, benefits, leave, reporting, and administration of company policies.
Responsibilities: Assist employees in all aspects including but not limited to insurance, credit union, payroll checks, 401k loans, retirement, personal data changes, etc. Maintain HR Information System and update all payroll information. Handle all information confidentially.
Job Responsibilities: 1.
  • Coordinates insurance payments/arrears for employees on leave of absence in conjunction with Plant Nurse.
  • Maintains all seniority data to ensure accuracy of seniority moves.
  • Initiates employee performance appraisal program and log their return and enter into HR Information System 4.
  • Distributes/mails paychecks to employees when they are out of work.
  • Assists employees with questions and issues pertaining to Human Resources policies and procedures. Refers to Manager when necessary.
  • Maintain job opportunity system by posting job requests and printing job roster information when necessary. 6.
  • Acts as credit union representative assisting all employees with transactions. 9.
  • Updates HRIS system and employee files to reflect employee status changes and new hires electronically and paper. 3.
  • Tracks all promotions, transfers, regressions, hires, terminations, etc. weekly. 13.
  • The above statement reflects the general details considered necessary to describe the principal functions of the job identified and shall not be construed as a detailed description of all the work requirements that may be inherent in the job.
  • Assists with all retention and recognition programs 10.
  • Acts as representative for the H.R. Department when dealing with Insurance Co., doctor’s offices, credit union or other outside organizations in conjunction with Plant Nurse.
  • Issue weekly and monthly reports including but not limited to accounting, EEO summary, VEC reporting, overdue appraisals, disciplinary actions, personal data changes, terminations, mailing of COBRA letters, and wage payroll changes. 5.
  • Performs other assignments as directed by HR Manager.
  • Conducts background checks as necessary for all plants. 7.
  • Handles employment - related inquiries from applicants, employees, and Supervisors, referring complex and sensitive matters to the appropriate staff person in the department. 2.
  • Handles all confidential incoming and outgoing information appropriately. 14.
  • Make and assist with all travel related arrangements necessary for visitors and interviewees.
Essential functions are designated with an asterisk in the Job Responsibilities Section. Environmental/Safety Risk Requirements: Exposure to Fiberglass, fly, dust, finishing fumes or other chemicals.
Prerequisites
Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment as required by job/task; Safety Shoes, Safety Glasses and Hearing Protection which is not an inclusive list.
High School diploma or equivalent. Knowledge of personal computer, calculator and other office related equipment. Three [3] to five [5] years previous HR Generalist experience is required .
Must be able to type 40+ words per minute correctly [uncorrected]. Must score 70% or better on MS Word & MS Excel - being tested by a third party . Desired: Bachelor’s degree Mandatory: Listed in prerequisites above Assessments:
Medical – Vision corrected to 20/20, drug screen and Hearing to normal speech Skills and Abilities Necessary to be Considered Successful: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to prioritize tasks and to upgrade to Manager them when appropriate. Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality. Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and related software. Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organizations HRIS and recruiting management systems.
