Job Description
Position Summary
The Human Resource Generalist performs duties at the professional level in some or all the following functional areas; employee recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, training, benefit management, and HRIS functions. This position requires an extremely perceptive person who can relate to individuals at all levels within the organization. The HR Generalist must be sensitive to organizational needs, employee goodwill and the business needs. Work Schedule:
Monday – Friday 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. May oversee the scheduling, assignments, and daily workflow of subordinate staff in the department (i.e., Human Resources Assistant). May assist with constructive and timely performance evaluations.
Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments. This may include safety training, anti-harassment training, and certifications. Recruits, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings. Responsible for communicating and issuing employment offers both in verbal and written formats. Responsible for setting up pre-employment physical and substance testing with candidates and following up with appropriate providers. Responsible for initiating the start date for the new hire after successful completion of pre-employment testing. Conduct new hire orientations, complete new hire paperwork, provide necessary new hire paperwork onto payroll department. Enter new hire information into HR database, and the Dayforce system. Maintain the employee door badge and surveillance video system for Human Resources purposes. Maintains all employee and applicant documentation as cited by governing agencies. E-Verify of all candidates Ensures compliance with the USCIS Form I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification, periodically audits Form I-9. Learns the HRIS system as an expert for the organization.
Implements new hire orientation and employee recognition programs. Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development. Assists HR Manager in monitoring eligibility for benefit plans and open enrollment activities including presentations to employees. Assists employees with enrollment, cancellations, or changes if applicable. Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff. Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations. Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance. In charge of reporting, maintaining, and monitoring all worker’s compensation case files; follow-up on open cases. Track worker’s compensation claims. Work with supervisors to accurately process claims in a timely manner. Work with insurance carrier to assure injured employees’ medical bills are paid and employee is compensated for any time off work. Work with Company legal department if a claim is brought to state arbitrator, settlements are negotiated and/or legal issues arise. Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
Leads employee wellness programs. Assists in employee engagement initiatives and recognition programs. Covers Human Resources office personnel and functions during absence of Manager Preferred Skills: Certification in Human Resources Management or the equivalent years of experience. SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) certification a plus. Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization’s HRIS (Ceridian Dayforce) and talent management systems.
