Job Description
LAC Federal is seeking a part-time Historian to conduct research and draft research products in support of a museum focused on the history of U.S. armed forces and veterans. The Historian will support a Federal museum and archives in conducting original research using primary and secondary sources. Research products will include historical summaries, presentations, monographs, information papers, and research to support museum exhibits. Additionally, the Historian will provide reviews for other museum publications and materials reviewing formats and captures and creating bibliographies and indexes. The Historian will support oral history interviews of current and former government officials.
Position Responsibilities:
  • Review museum materials for accuracy including checking footnotes for both accuracy and correct format
  • Create indexes, bibliographies, and similar products for museum publications
  • Support planning and preparation for oral history projects
  • Write scholarly materials including presentations, monographs, journal articles, and materials to support physical and virtual exhibitions
  • Provide research and reference services to museum and archives customers and in support of research projects.
  • Conduct original research using primary and secondary resources
Requirements
  • Experience with oral history strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting research in major archives on 2-4 significant projects
  • Must be able to provide 2-4 samples of previous research work including presentation, journal articles, monographs, or other scholarly work on American history focused on Federal Government institutions or political history, public administration, or U.S. armed forces and veterans.
  • Master’s degree in Public History or other directly related field.
  • At least three years of experience as a historian, focused on the history of the U.S. Federal Government and/or armed forces, public administration, political science, or Veterans studies.
