AECOM has an exciting opportunity for a Historian on a client site at the Department of Homeland Security's St Elizabeth's West Campus in Washington DC.
This is a temporary, full-time position with a one-year assignment.
The incumbent should have the following abilities and experience:
+ Experience that reflects knowledge of history concepts and techniques and available sources
+ Working knowledge/experience complying with the provisions of Section 106: National Historic Preservation Act, Archaeological Resources Protection Act (ARPA), Executive Order 13287 Preserve America, and cross-cutting mandates such as the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
+ Experience in the principles/practice of historical research including use of the National; Archives and other repositories of historical information.
+ Developing interpretation for historical information highlighting authenticity and significance
+ Designing, organizing, and conducting tours and workshops for employees and the public
Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
+ Support development planning efforts
+ Attending meetings and civic events
+ Engaging with personnel and the public through educational programs and presentations
+ Writing briefs, reports, and articles on historically significant events, architecture, landscapes etc
+ Working collaboratively with historic preservation, curatorial, technical, and student staff or experts
+ Cataloging, archiving, storing, or exhibiting materials and artifacts in museums, visitor centers, and historic sites
+ Assisting in readying items in museum collections for display, storage, and curation.
+ Create language for, write or review signage for virtual and physical exhibits, such as by building exhibit cases, and, ensuring proper display and lighting.
+ Keeping and storing detailed records of the conditions and locations of the objects that are on display or in storage.
+ Organizing and maintaining electronic and hardcopy history files
Candidates should have:
+ Strong attention to detail
+ Strong written and verbal communication skills
+ Ability to manage multiple and changing priorities
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Master’s degree in public history from an accredited University recognized by the
U.S. Department of Education.
Valid Driver's License with a good driving record.
Due to the nature of the work, U.S. Citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Experience interfacing with government representatives
+ Experience researching St Elizabeth's is preferred
+ Ability to gain ready access to DHS locations without escort (Secret clearance).
