Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage tasks related to the preparation and development of technical documentation for cultural resources compliance under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, Section 4(f) (49 U.S.C. 303) of the Department of Transportation Act and applicable state historic preservation laws
  • Prepare architectural inventory forms
  • Develop and successfully manage relationships with internal and external clients, specifically with federal and state agencies, and with State Historic Preservation Offices
  • Perform other duties as needed
  • Conduct detail archival and background research
  • Lead reconnaissance and intensive-level surveys, historic contexts, National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) nominations and determinations of eligibility, assessment of project effects on historic properties, Historic Structures Reports, condition assessments, and other technical work
  • Work independently on small projects, or assist other staff on larger projects
  • Author architectural and historical resources reports
  • Travel to project locations, predominantly throughout the Northeast Region
  • Assist with preparation and development of National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documentation and feasibility and supporting studies for environmental planning projects
  • Assist with tasks related to Section 106 consulting party coordination and development of Section 106 agreement documents, including correspondence on behalf of federal agencies, consulting party coordination, and development of Section 106 agreement documents.

Qualifications


Required Qualifications

  • Willingness to travel and work under varied weather conditions, remotely, and within natural environments
  • Minimum 7 years of applicable experience
  • Master’s degree in History, Architectural History, Historic Preservation, or closely related field
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant in our employee-owned culture
  • Previous experience with the regulatory framework surrounding cultural resource management (i.e., Section 106, Section 4(f), and NEPA)
  • Self-motivated, with excellent writing and communication skills
  • Strong oral communication skills; basic computer skills (Microsoft Office products)
  • Willingness to work in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualifications Standards for Architectural History
  • Previous work experience in Section 106 NHPA compliance
