Job Description
THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a High Voltage Electrician for the Department of General Services, you will perform a variety of highly skilled tasks while working with voltage levels of 66,000 volts and below. The work includes installation, test, repair, and maintenance of a variety of electrical machinery, devices, and associated equipment. You will maintain efficient operation of various parts of an electrical generating and distribution system. You will perform work within the Harrisburg Capitol Complex, Governor’s Residence, Lt. Governor’s Residence and the Regional Office Buildings. This is a 5-day, 16-hour a day operation subject to shift work. You will work at altitudes in excess of 60 feet standing on very small platforms and in confined space areas, such as manholes and vaults.
Essential Employee - Required to work during emergencies and office closings.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment.
  • Work hours are 4:00 pm to 12:00 am, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Six years of journey-level electrical experience, including eighteen months of experience in high voltage electrical work.
  • Successful completion of a High Voltage Electrician Training program; or
Necessary Special Requirements:
  • Possession of a valid Pennsylvania Class C non-commercial Driver's License.
Condition of Employment:
  • This position requires a Master Electrician License from a recognized licensing authority.
Additional Requirements:
  • Must demonstrate professionalism, the ability to communicate effectively, and interact and work well with others and in groups.
  • Must be available for different shifts when needed.
  • Must have at least 18 months industrial/commercial switchgear experience.
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Possess computer/technologies experience in any of the following: Word, Excel, AIM work order, ESS system, Smart phone, Email.
  • Experience working from ladders, scaffolding, bucket truck or manlifts while following safety procedures.
