POSITION OVERVIEW

The firm is seeking a Jr. Equity Research Analyst to join our Equity Long/Short Retail team. Working directly with Portfolio Managers and other analysts, this person will be an integral part of the research process by providing data driven research and insights. The Jr. Equity Research Analyst will be passionate about alternative data and how it can be layered with traditional fundamental research to enhance the investment process.


RESPONSIBILITIES

·Serve as the Retail team’s primary liaison to the central Alternative Data team and collaborate to leverage alternative data in testing fundamental hypotheses.

·Conduct company and industry fundamental research to develop a deep understanding of key business and industry drivers within the coverage universe and other related/adjacent industries.

·Track company KPIs and analyze vs. correlated data; create high-level estimates throughout the quarter and for earnings previews.

·Conduct primary research such as compiling website inventory/promotional information, conducting store visits, and employing other creative data collection methods.

·Research existing and new datasets - highlight sentiment incongruity or other data anomalies/thoughts and communicate ideas to PMs.

·Create, maintain, and update company financial models.

·Clearly and effectively communicate and articulate actionable equity ideas.

·Explore and stay informed of emerging trends/data sets/initiatives/companies which are or who may become important innovators.

·Attend meetings, conferences and other company or industry events as required.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE


Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have:

·Bachelors’ degree required complemented by a strong academic record (3.5+ GPA preferred) from a competitive institution/program including successful coursework in Accounting & Finance.

·Minimum 2+ years of experience conducting equity research or investment analysis on the buy-side or sell-side

·Experience analyzing alternative data sets such as credit card & debit card transactions, foot traffic/geolocation data, consumer surveys, web scraped data, etc…

·Experience evaluating retail companies with passion for the subject matter and/or experience working at a retail company.

·Demonstrated passion for the equity markets, investing and analyzing companies.

·Professional experience building financial models combined with strong accounting knowledge.

·Professional or educational experience working with data; Python programming experience strongly preferred.

·Advanced Microsoft Excel including dynamic named ranges, index/match, parsing etc., VBA preferred but not required.

The Firm offers a total compensation package that includes a base salary and discretionary performance-related bonus, as well as a comprehensive benefits package.Consistent with New York City’s Pay Transparency Law, the currently anticipated base salary range for this role is $125,000 to $175,000, which is specific to New York City and New York State.When crafting an offer of employment and total compensation package for candidates, the Firm may incorporate a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, an individual’s experience level and qualifications.
