Job Description


The Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals (DIA) in the Investigation Division is seeking capable and enthusiastic individuals to join the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit (MFCU) a as Healthcare Auditor.


Who We Are


It is the mission of the Iowa Medicaid Fraud Control Unit to maintain the integrity of the Iowa Medicaid program and the provision of Medicaid services by investigating allegations of fraud committed against the Iowa Medicaid program, fraudulent activities, and patient abuse pertaining to the provision of Medicaid goods and services.

Desired Abilities Include


The MFCU Healthcare Auditor conducts various records analyses, provides organized data analyses to MFCU personnel and federal law enforcement partners, and conducts data mining activities to identify indicators of potential Medicaid fraud. The position reports directly to the MFCU Bureau Chief, and is located in the Lucas State Office building on the Capitol complex in Des Moines.

What You’ll Do


  • Exhibit proficient computer skills to utilize case management system and other computer databases
  • Analyze financial records, medical records, etc.
  • Complete thorough and accurate data analyses for MFCU personnel and federal law enforcement partners
  • Complete necessary training as required by state, department, and unit policies
  • Cooperate with local, state, and federal law enforcement partners and outside administrative/regulatory agencies
  • Maintain valid drivers license to operate state vehicle
  • Understand and apply state and federal laws, rules, and regulations, along with Medicaid programs and policies
  • Conduct data mining activities of Medicaid claims data to identify potential Medicaid fraud
  • Perform SQL queries to retrieve, organize, and analyze Medicaid claims data in Microsoft Excel spreadsheets
  • Facilitate information requests from MFCU with state Medicaid agency and contracted Managed Care Organizations
  • Communicate clearly and effectively in verbal and written form with others
  • Maintain confidentiality of all case information

Minimum Qualification Requirements


Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree with a minimum of twelve semester or equivalent hours in accounting, business administration or finance, and eighteen months of full-time professional auditing or accounting experience;


OR


an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one year of work experience in auditing or accounting work involving the preparation or analysis of financial statements for every thirty semester hours of the required education to a maximum of four years;


OR


employees with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes twelve months of full-time work as an Accountant/Auditor 1.

Additional Qualification Requirements


Some positions require overnight travel. Incumbents will be required to make arrangements on their own regarding transportation to and from assigned work areas.
