Background

Opened to the public in 1935, The Frick Collection is a world-renowned art museum consisting of more than 1,500 works of art from the ninth to the nineteenth centuries displayed in the intimate surroundings of the former home of Pittsburgh industrialist Henry Clay Frick. It is considered one of the world’s most perfect museums, and the residence is one of New York City’s few remaining Gilded Age mansions. The Frick welcomes nearly 300,000 visitors a year to its tranquil mansion on the Upper East Side.

The Frick has moved into its temporary home—Frick Madison—at 75th Street and Madison Avenue (the former Whitney Museum), while renovations are underway. Construction has progressed rapidly and the building and MEP/FS systems will be turned over later this year.

Position Summary

This is a newly created position that will be a key member of the internal team, responsible for engineering and facilities operations at the Frick's current temporary facility in at 945 Madison Avenue and the return to the main building at 1 East 70th Street. The individual in this role is responsible for the operational management and effective daily leadership and administration of the engineering and facilities management team.

The Head of Engineering and Facilities also executes equipment inspections and monitoring programs; defines and implements maintenance best practices and continually evaluates current maintenance, operations and reliability methods.

With our move back to 1 East 70th Street the Head of Engineering and Facilities will also be responsible for

all systems/building management, including but not limited to:

  • Developing operations & maintenance programs for new facility
  • Managing adherence to applicable local laws
  • Oversee training the engineering and facilities teams
  • Taking possession of the new facility from Construction Manager and Project Team
  • In collaboration with COO and HR team, recruiting additional engineers/mechanics as needed
  • Liaising with museum departments as needed in order to deliver services and resolve issues
  • Direct and manage all Engineers: provide leadership, supervision and management
  • Monitoring and resolving systems issues
  • Collaborate with external partners, such as Food & Beverage, to develop and manage maintenance programs
  • Overseeing gardens and grounds
  • Engaging vendors and partners for ongoing maintenance and response
  • Partner with fellow operations groups including Security and public services
  • Direct and manage Facilities Management staff: building maintenance & custodial

Leadership and Staff Training:

Supervise and manage engineers to include hiring, training and professional development.

Ensure that the CFWA (Critical Facility Work Authorization) is a well-understood process among the building staff, engineers and contractors who perform work on the facility's critical infrastructure

Provides training and support aimed at expanding the capabilities of the engineering and other operations maintenance staff. Specific duties include, but are not limited to: demonstrating the proper use and care of tools and instruments, giving hands on instruction in basic maintenance, safety and troubleshooting procedures, recommending relative outside engineering courses for enrollment and instilling an overall level of professionalism in manner and appearance.

Safety:

Identify safety hazards within the facility and incorporate the remediation of such hazards.

Implement, administer and manage safety training program for Engineering department.

Ensure that compliance with all regulatory laws and guidelines are met as they relate to the operation of the facility's infrastructure. Responsible for alerting upper management of any building discrepancies.

Maintain all infrastructure and compliance documentation for the facility including up-to-date building drawings and single-lines as well as documentation mandated for the purpose of maintaining regulatory compliance with Federal, State or Local City Law.

Requirements:

The education and/or experience requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability required to successfully perform the essential duties of this position.

Technical expertise and experience in commissioning and running of:

  • Fire Prevention & Suppression Systems
  • Water Treatment
  • General building maintenance
  • Supplementary systems such as lighting controls, and other automated systems
  • HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Vertical Transportation, and related building systems

Bachelors or degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent work experience.

15+ years facility related work experience, including leadership and supervisory experience.

Working knowledge of computer applications including Microsoft Office and Building

Computer literacy in a Windows environment/Microsoft Office Suite essential

Information Modeling- (BIMfm).

Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Ability to successfully interact with colleagues at all levels.

Compensation: Annual full-time exempt salary, $165,000-$200,000, commensurate with experience.

Paid Holidays: All full-time employees are eligible for 14 paid holidays, all federal holidays, plus Lincoln’s birthday, Juneteenth, Election Day, and two floating holidays to be used in the last quarter of the year.

Sick and Vacation time: All eligible full-time employees accrue up to 12 sick and 12 vacation days their first year of employment. In subsequent years, eligible full-time employees accrue up to 12 sick days and 25 vacation days/year.

Family leave: We provide all eligible employees with bereavement leave and paid parental leave, and we adhere to federal family leave laws.

Health, Dental, and Vision insurance: All eligible full-time employees and their eligible dependents may enroll in employee-sponsored benefit plans. Employees contribute to the cost of health insurance based on income level and type of coverage selected.

Short- and Long-Term Disability and Life Insurance: The Frick covers the entire cost of these benefits for all eligible full-time employees. The life insurance benefit is up to three times the employee’s annual salary.

Retirement: The Frick supports all employees in planning for retirement. The Frick provides all eligible employees with a defined benefit pension plan, the value of this plan is equivalent to an additional 12% in compensation. Employee may also choose to make additional contributions to The Frick's Tax Deferred Savings Plan – 403(b) plan.
