Job Description

About this role:


  • The Head Coach will be an integral leader of the U.S. National Development Program (USNDP) and its programs focusing on high-performance athletes, coaching, player development and talent identification to further the mission of fostering future generations of American golf talent. This individual will collaborate across various USGA departments and golf industry partners to ensure that the USNP has best in class high-performance coaching and support at the elite national team level.


What you'll do:


  • Lead collaboration and communication with national team athletes’ individual instructors and collegiate coaches to secure alignment around what is best for the athlete from a developmental and competitive perspective. Mentor and coach national team athletes on an individual and/or team basis at international events or other events in the U.S. as appropriate. Develop and prepare elite development athletes who have the potential to progress to professional ranks.
  • Develop an elite golf program, along with the Senior Player Development Advisor, for the USNDP that will expose elite development athletes to the physical, technical and mental loads required to compete successfully at national and international levels.
  • Oversee and lead the day-to-day coaching operations within the USNDP, inclusive of the full-time coaching team and any part-time regional or seasonal national team coaches. Provide overall direction, coordination and evaluation of coaching team. Given the infancy of the USNDP, national head coach will be responsible for building out a team of coaches and high-performance managers in line with USNDP budget and initial 5-year strategy, including developing a network of appropriately qualified coaches at the regional and state levels to help fulfill the mission and objectives of the USNDP. Provide structure, mentorship, and support for USNDP network of certified coaches. Work with USNDP player development director on coaching certification and training. Build a coaching culture that emphasizes a healthy and positive environment and pathway for national team athletes to reach the highest levels of the game.
  • Build, oversee and implement USNDP training camps at the national, regional and state level in conjunction with the Senior Player Development Advisor.
  • Drive talent identification strategy by working with data strategy director and player development director to build tools to identify, track and measure athletes, collaborating with golf industry and junior golf experts to identify players with the potential to progress through the U.S. National Team pipeline. Travel to junior, amateur, and professional events to identify talent.


Where you'll be:


  • This role will be based at our new headquarters in Pinehurst, North Carolina, scheduled to open in Dec. 2023. This role also requires extensive travel, both domestically and internationally - approximately 20-25 weeks per year.


What you bring:


  • A. or B.S. in sports management or administration, education, business, sports psychology or other related field
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Word, Powerpoint, Excel, etc.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Hard working and a problem-solver
  • Safe Sport Certified; ADM Certified; member of the PGA of America or LPGA Professionals
  • TPI Certified preferred
  • Leader
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Working knowledge of high-performance programs and a network of relationships across national teams
  • Expertise in golf required, including expertise in the areas of statistics, club fitting, launch monitors, etc.
  • Experience in managing budgets
  • 10+ years’ experience in coaching and/or instruction
  • Previous experience with a national team or golf federation a plus
  • Strategic thinker
