Role Summary
As a member of the Chicago Department of Public Health, the Graphic Artist III role provides graphic design and creative services to assist the department in its communications, signage, publications, and other materials essential to its programs. This role will also support the design needs of marketing strategies, promotions, and content on behalf of the department.
Essential Duties
Creative Design. Leads the creative direction and proposes designs for print and digital materials needed by department programs with design software such as Adobe, Illustrator, or Photoshop. Consults on design specifications and creates presentations for department needs. Creates graphic assets, selects photos and illustrations used in department materials. Meets with program managers and other stakeholders to obtain final approval of designs for production.
Production Management. Monitors the printing of publications, signage, or other materials to ensure they meet specified standards. Coordinates the preparation of different elements of any physical displays to ensure they meet design specifications and established deadlines. Participates in training of staff and set up of physical signage or other graphic displays.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience
  • Three years of commercial artwork experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
Er Knowledge, Skills, Attributes, And Abilities
  • Proficient in design and printing
  • Knowledgeable in graphic design and commercial art principles, practices, and techniques
  • Knowledge of applicable City and department policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Skilled in commercial design software, such as Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Photoshop

This position is funded by a federal grant. These funds may be extended, but CDPH cannot guarantee this position will be funded past July 2024.
