We manage the state park system and programs to inventory, interpret and protect Tennessee’s rich natural, historical, and archaeological heritage.


TDEC’s Office of Strategy and Support provides bureau-wide strategic leadership and support functions for the Bureau of Parks and Conservation. It is primarily responsible for the Bureau’s strategic planning, for leading major strategic initiatives and supporting all the Bureau various divisions with administrative services and GIS. The Bureau of Parks and Conservation is responsible for managing the Tennessee State Parks, State Natural Areas, State Archaeology and outdoor Recreation Resources.

Job Overview:

We are seeking candidates who have a passion for state parks, outdoor recreation, and conserving our natural environment. This position offers the opportunity to work with diverse stakeholders across the Bureau of Parks and Conservation. The Grants Program Manager is a key player within the Office of Strategy and Support. It will report to the Director of Strategy and Support and is in TDEC¿s Central Office in Nashville, TN. TDEC’s employees are currently working in an alternative workspace from their home with flexible time in TDEC’s offices. The position requires periodic field work across the state with light travel and overnight stays.


Key Responsibilities:

Identify new sources of funding for the Tennessee State Parks, State Natural Areas, and the Division of Archeology.

  • Develop training for staff involved with projects or programs supported by grants.
  • Write and present grant proposals to the Grant Committee.
  • Develop policies and procedures for the Grants Program and maintain appropriate documentation.
  • Prepare budgets, track expenditures, ensure compliance, and prepare progress reports for grants awarded to the Bureau of Parks and Conservation.
  • Coordinate with Park Managers and Bureau Directors for direction on the types of grants desired for each group.
  • Communicate with executives to provide updates and ensure grant outcomes align with intended goals.


Required Experience:

Preferred education and experience include graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree and two years of full-time professional grant management experience. Additional graduate coursework in business administration, public administration, or other related acceptable field may be substituted for the required experience, on a year-for- year basis.

Qualifying full-time professional grants analytic experience may be substituted for the required education, on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of four years.
