Job Description
The Columbus Blue Jackets organization is an asset of the community and is committed, through our actions, to make Columbus and Central Ohio a better place to live and do business. The Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation provides the organization with the means to deepen and strengthen its connection to the community through visible and high-impact charitable activities.
The Foundation is dedicated to using its unique resources to raise public awareness and financial support for key initiatives that support the Foundation’s four core areas of focus: Pediatric Cancer, Children’s Health & Safety, Education, Youth Hockey.
The Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation Events Manager is one of the two key positions that supports the Executive Director in the management and execution of Foundation fund development and grant making strategies in alignment with strategic plans, business goals and objectives. The main responsibility of the Events Manager of the Columbus Blue Jacket Foundation is to maximize the Foundation’s fundraising opportunities and donor stewardship effectiveness by organizing exceptional and unforgettable programs and events of different size and scope. The focus will be on managing the overall project planning and execution of special events and initiatives to elevate the Foundations reputation in the community. The position requires a candidate who is a highly collaborative, energized, self-motivated, and results oriented leader with strong organizational skills and attention to detail. It will be necessary for the person in this role to be present at home games with additional nights and weekends as necessary to conduct the Foundation’s programs, initiatives, and events.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Support the Foundation’s game night initiatives, such as auction and 50/50 raffle operations, fan experience fulfillment, hosting Foundation grant partners.
  • Lead the planning, management, and execution of various special events to help meet fundraising goals, such as Golf Classic, The CannonBall, Grant Reception, and community celebrations.
  • Raise the profile of the Blue Jackets Foundation locally, focusing on the Blue Jackets as a leader in corporate social responsibility among other local organizations and other professional sports teams.
  • Work with the Corporate Partnerships and Activation Department to ensure sponsor recognition of Foundation initiatives and events aligns with the level of sponsorship packages.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including marketing, communications, production and operations, to ensure seamless event integration and alignment with the Foundation’s messaging and mission.
  • Ensure all logistics and timelines are met with the highest level of quality and efficiency.
  • Support community development programs and initiatives, as needed.
  • Recruit and lead volunteers, provide clear direction, coordinate staffing needs, and ensure top-notch customer service is provided to all fans.
  • Develop and manage event budgets, procurement processes, and vendor contracts to optimize resources and ensure cost-effectiveness.
  • Assists with the development of strategic fundraising plan.
  • Work closely with the Foundation Programs & Operations Manager on functions that support fundraising, such as database management, donor acknowledgments and communications. Ensure applicable local, state, and federal laws, codes, rules and regulations are followed.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, vendors, and sponsors to secure resources and support for special events.
  • Evaluate event performance, including participant feedback, attendance, and fundraising outcomes, to identify areas for improvement and inform future event strategy and planning.
  • Develop donor recognition initiatives and ensure retention of stakeholder relationships to encourage future gifts to the Blue Jackets Foundation.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience is required; and five years of experience in event planning and executing large-scale events, preferably for non-profit organizations; extensive knowledge of local philanthropic and business community. Must have demonstrated experience and success in fund raising.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have proficiency in using Microsoft suite (Outlook, Word, Mail Merge, Excel, Power Point, Photo Shop) and SharePoint. Experience with basic web site management, html and graphic design a plus.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
