Job Description

Summary:
The Supplier Quality Engineering Manager oversees GM Supplier Quality Engineers (SQE) supporting current component production and new product Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) launch activities. The SQE Manager must prioritize safety in everything they do, while maintaining an inclusive work environment, to protect our customers in support of the GM vision of Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions, and Zero Congestion.
Your team is responsible to execute the APQP process with their assigned suppliers. It is the responsibility of the Manager to define career development and growth opportunities for their team while driving efficient and effective work methods throughout the various processes that drive a flexible workplace approach to achieve results within defined expectations and metrics that drive strategic supplier improvements. Traveling to the GM Supply Base and our GM facilities is necessary to ensure robust quality plans are in place and executed (up to approximately 50% of the working days per year). Trips will vary in frequency, duration, and location based on assignments.
In your Manager role, you will interface with peers in Purchasing, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Advanced Technology team to support the GM Energy Development Process from sourcing through launch and into steady state production.

As a GM Supplier Quality Manager for GM Energy, your core responsibility is overseeing the execution of the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) process for those commodities within your control. This typically includes review of program progress to milestones and identifying/mitigating risks to GM and our customers. You will assure supplier understanding of, and compliance to, APQP processes such as Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), Quality plans (Control Plans, FMEA), and Run at Rate verification.
Additional responsibilities include reviewing manufacturing processes and quality systems to identify risks and prevent issues to protect GM and our customers. As a member of GM Energy you will have a significant role to learn, share and define functional and cross functional improvement opportunities in all three aspects of our business - people, processes, and products. As a member of the team, you will have a direct/indirect responsibility in the talent development process for both your team and those of your peers.
  • May include identifying problems, updating or modifying working methods that may be complex in their work area without the benefit of defined procedures.
  • Responsible for staffing, communicating, training and development, directing and prioritization of work, evaluating performance and removing roadblocks.
  • Develops new products, processes, standards, or operational plans of the organization's business strategies with a direct impact on business and/or function overall results.
  • Provides technical leadership and guides the team to successful execution of vehicle programs.
  • Influences others within the organization to accept new concepts, practices, and approaches.
  • Promotes GM's values and makes customer-focused decisions.
  • Fully experienced manager who leads and directs a large group of 15 - 25 engineers or technical employees. Responsible for engineering work in support of projects and/or programs.

Required Qualifications:
  • Comprehension of manufacturing and assembly plant processes, procedures, tooling, equipment, and facilities.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and relationship leadership skills to effectively collaborate with varying levels of the organization as needed
  • Evidence of strong character with integrity, honesty, accountability, and trust
  • Emerging partnership and teamwork skills and ability to learn from and share knowledge with co-workers in a fast-paced environment
  • Bachelor’s Degree with a technical focus (Mechanical Eng, Electrical Eng, Applied Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, etc.).
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with Automotive APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning).
  • Minimum 5 years in Quality or Engineering including experience with products or processes applicable to automotive component processing
  • Comprehension of geometric design and tolerance (GD&T).
  • Ability to work effectively from remote locations (suppliers, various GM facilities, home, etc.)
  • Comprehension of probability, statistical quality control and design of experiments.
  • Ability to investigate quality problems and to apply sound technical judgment to develop potential solutions.
  • Proficient in print reading and interpretation, part measurement, gage design and function.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in UL Certifications.
  • Experience in Electrical Testing or Electrical Manufacturing Processes and Procedures.
  • Capability for Statistical Problem Solving (Red X, DFSS, DMAIC).
  • Experience and capability in Quality Systems Planning (APQP), including PPAP.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or similar fields
  • Experience and capability in the IATF 16946 Certification Process / ISO 9001.
  • Experience in Lean Manufacturing and Manufacturing Quality.
Remote: This position does not require employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee’s role enables them to work off-site on a permanent basis.
Compensation:
  • Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
  • The expected base compensation for this role is $131,243 – 201,018 USD Annually
  • Actual base compensation within the identified range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
