The GFF Innovation Manager drives technology projects and manages the innovation implementation activities within a district or across multiple districts, including project communications, risk mitigation, resource coordination, and issues resolution for multi-discipline projects encompassing multiple geographies, regions, products, and services. He/She is responsible for the creation and validation of project value statements, user requirements, and customer expectations. This position may manage multiple project teams and provide ongoing analysis of projects, plans, and templates through statistics, outcome, and post-implementation reviews and reporting. He/She manages managers and supervisors.

Job Duties

Oversees Project Plan Development and Deployment

Leads Major GFF & Brokerage Projects

  • Identifies key cross-functional stakeholders (e.g., Division Manager, Brokerage Area Managers, etc.) to raise awareness and drive process improvements.
  • Maintains collaboration with stakeholders to define criteria and constraints associated with implementation scope and deployment strategy.
  • Oversees resource needs and skill set gathering for implementation to ensure a clear understanding of roles and responsibilities.
  • Examines customer concerns to design process improvements, reduce churn, and increase organic growth.
  • Develops deployment roles, responsibility definitions and deployment strategies and obtains stakeholder sign-off to ensure an effective project plan.
  • Creates collaborative efforts across the organization to provide awareness of initiatives impacting brokerage operations.
  • Sets & validates strategies, project value statements, user requirements, and customer expectations to ensure customer and project requirements are met
  • Drives projects in conjunction with strategic initiatives and network programs to ensure issues are identified and solutions implemented

Oversees Implementation Phases for Multiple Teams

  • Serves as the project implementation primary contact and cross-functional team leader to identify implementation criteria, obtain stakeholder buy-in, and support cross-functional communications.
  • Oversees post-implementation audits to ensure “best in class” repeatable implementation models and effective and efficient processes.
  • Manages the implementation roll-out plans to ensure effective project implementations.
  • Manages issues and risk mitigation as established through a stakeholder and sponsor approved escalation and mitigation plan to ensure effective project implementation and deployment
  • Oversees creation of work breakdown structures to maximize productivity and quality results.

Oversees User Acceptance Testing and Project Reporting Status

  • Provides Technology Integration Center and Technical Support Center level reporting against budget and deliverables to ensure attainment of forecasted revenue and operating income.
  • Distributes project timeline status (i.e., plan versus actual) to ensure effective monitoring of project progress.
  • Manages testing process and reviews test results to ensure modifications to product and processes occur as needed.
  • Oversees focus meetings with users (i.e., internal and external customers) after the initial test to identify needed modifications for products and processes.
  • Reviews surveys from users and impacted parties to identify improvements for the implementation process of future models, sites, groups, and customers.

Manages Projects

  • Ensures affected functions or groups are identified and works with them to negotiate process changes, ownership of processes, and to manage project impact.
  • Develops project plans (i.e., detailed plan, milestones, and work breakdown structures) and assigns tasks to resources to ensure that the project will be completed on time and according to specifications.
  • Manages project lifecycles, including project scope, resources, schedule, initiation, start-up/design, building, and deployment to see projects from beginning-to-end.
  • Forwards project documents to stakeholders to obtain sign-off, agreement on project cost, and needed resources.
  • Follows up with assigned resources formally (e.g., status meetings, etc.) and informally to continuously manage the productivity of the team, project timelines, and deliverables.
  • Designs and implements communication plans to ensure those affected by projects are informed and updated.
  • Balances multiple projects and deployment schedules to meet stakeholder goals and expectations.

Manages and Develops Others

  • Identifies opportunities to involve others in new and challenging work assignments and/or rotations that advance the skills and capabilities of individuals and the organization.
  • Ensures that direct and indirect reports have documented career goals and detailed plans for achieving these goals to develop them personally and professionally.
  • Identifies individual and team skill gaps and developmental opportunities (e.g., training, special assignments, conferences, projects, etc.) to facilitate individual and team development.
  • Conducts frequent performance evaluations in a consistent, fair, and objective manner to facilitate open communication and encourage continuous performance improvement.
  • Resolves individual and group performance issues in accordance with UPS’s policies and procedures in a timely manner to motivate and foster teamwork.
  • Manages resources and people processes (e.g., Performance Management, Career Development, Training, Staffing, etc.) to ensure the day to day administration of processes and formal procedures.
  • Coaches others and provides on-going feedback and support to improve performance.
  • Makes salary recommendations to reward employee performance.
  • Holds others accountable to established performance levels to achieve individual and group goals.
