Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

The GIS Specialist is responsible for processing spatial and environmental data through multiple geospatial and environmental desktop software platforms to create products used for final planning and reporting deliverables. This position supports the GIS Manager, receiving direction and assignments for completion. Collaboration will occur with field scientists, geologists, project chemists, surveyors, engineers, technical editors, and project managers to meet project objectives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Cartography with ArcGIS for Desktop® software suite (version 10.7):

  • Incorporate AutoCAD® drawings into GIS mapping.
  • Develop, organize, manage, and deliver geodatabases to clients that meet specific contract standards.
  • Integrate geodatabases with other data management tools.
  • Establish update metadata.
  • Develop environmental report figures using map document templates, in a variety of layout formats.
  • Ensure good cartographic and engineering design with proper scaling
  • Produce maps using both raster and vector spatial data model structures.
  • Create, organize, and edit point, line and polygon datasets.

GNSS Data Collection and Processing:

  • Migrating GPS and processed survey data to project geodatabases.
  • Managing mapping GNSS data collectors and GPS software
  • Loading and post processing of GPS data via GPS Pathfinder Office®, ArcGIS Collector® and ArcGIS Pro®.

Geospatial Support:

  • Perform other duties as directed.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Collect, create and manage spatial data, including design and use of relational databases and querying tools.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Proficient in ESRI ArcGIS for Desktop® , Autodesk AutoCAD Map3D®/Civil3D®, Trimble Pathfinder Office®, Microsoft Word®, Excel® and Outlook® in addition to Microsoft Access®.
  • Must be highly organized and able to manage multiple assignments from multiple clients with competing deadlines.
  • Must be adept at understanding map projections, vertical and geodetic datums, and coordinate system transformations.
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS Pro®, ArcGIS Online® environment, ArcGIS Collector®, ArcGIS Survey123®; Bentely gINT®, Trimble Pathfinder Office, Golden Surfer® and Trimble TerraSync® is a plus.
  • Adept at learning new computer software and ability to productively maneuver through multiple software platforms.
  • Must be adept at understanding technical aspects of environmental field work for conversion to graphics.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong experience in use of ESRI® and Autodesk® software for preparing maps, creating spatial datasets and manipulating geodatabases.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in environmental science, geospatial science or other related discipline required.

At times, work is performed outside of the office at indoor and outdoor job sites.
