Overview

To provide technical expertise and guidance on the practical application and development of geospatial data, related applications, and models to support gas business operations for RI Energy.

Responsibilities

Key Accountabilities:
  • Manage and develop company Esri portal for IT Telecom, including development of custom geospatial web content and web applications.
  • Support a formal “Storm Role” in the Distribution Operations business in events of large storms or major outages.
  • Acts as a backup to the Data Specialist when needed. Support Mapping Supervisor on day-to-day business with bargaining unit members.
  • Utilize geospatial records to direct and conduct spatial analysis to aid in planning, construction, and monitoring of the company’s gas distribution network.
  • Lead training of users and create training material on how to utilize geospatial tools and data maintained by department. Maintains relationships with clients, peers, vendors and management within RI Energy, LGE/KU, and PPL IT.
  • Acts as business and technical expert for company matters dealing with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology in all line of business, working in conjunction with PPL IT team to represent RI Energy.
  • Support and Lead GIS data sharing with RI Energy Electric Business.
  • Effectively communicates with all levels in the company by blending appropriate levels of technical and business detail to ensure issues are thoroughly understood.
  • Lead and support various engineering departments in developing various Asset Information requests for regulatory reporting, in addition to developing scripts for standardizations.
  • Maintain geospatial records in the Esri ArcGIS platform for RI Energy in support of business processes and regulatory requirements. Oversight of software and technology upgrades, as well as continuous process improvements regarding Esri.
  • Design, build, and implement comprehensive geospatial models to support business operations for RI Energy, including integrating RI land base features (wetland, park, river, flood plains, etc) from various 3rd party web portals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

Knowledge & Experience Requirements:
  • A bachelor’s degree in GIS or related discipline and 5-10 years of GIS experience is required.

  • A master’s degree in GIS, Geography, Information Technology, Computer Science or related discipline is strongly preferred.
  • GIS and data transformations with computer programming knowledge is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of geospatial data modeling and analysis.
  • Strong computer skills, strong communication skills and written skills required and the proven ability to act in a leadership role and coordinate multiple disciplines through project initiation and execution.

NOTE:
Employees selected for this classification will be required to participate in federally mandated drug testing programs prior to selection, randomly on a year round basis, after an accident and for reasonable cause.
