Position Summary Information

General Information
James Madison University (JMU) Telecommunications is accepting applications for a GIS/GPS Technician to document and map Telecommunications Infrastructure across the campus of James Madison University.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • GPSing/locating/documenting/diagramming outside and inside
  • Entering/diagramming and documenting confined spaces
infrastructure
  • Boots and Long pants will be required at site locations
  • Lifting, moving, pushing, and pulling equipment and weights greater than 150 lbs.
  • Importing and manipulating GPS data/files
  • Data entry and documenting GIS metadata
  • Mapping inside of Mapcom M4 Solutions

Qualifications
Experience with Global Positioning System data collection
methods and tools required.
Experience with GIS data creation and manipulation is required.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team required.
Experience with Locators is a plus.
Experience with Safe Software’s FME product is a plus.
Experience with Mapcom M4 Solutions is a plus.
Physical Demands and Actions:
Ability to work within confined spaces – Essential.
Ability to maintain a safe work environment – Essential
