Job Summary (includes but is not limited to the following, other duties may be assigned)

Supports Calpine’s natural gas physical trading and risk management activity. Responsible for trading desk operations. Transacts for short-term and intermediate commodity trading transactions. Specializes in the 30-day spot market. Uses futures and other financial tools as a service for customers and for the internal hedging of deals. Has enough knowledge of gas control, capacity release markets, storage, and pipeline transportation to play a major role in daily sourcing optimization. Also involved in position management, position reconciliation, project-oriented work and deal analysis. For those with emphasis on analytics, assists with developing trading strategies based on fundamental analysis of the market.

Job Responsibilities

• Experienced in managing fuel requirements for merchant power plants in deregulated markets.
• Uses advanced knowledge of own function and broad knowledge of other functions.
• Works closely with Calpine commercial groups to support the overall management of assigned regional power asset portfolio.
• Mature, experienced, innovative professional who handles complex and escalated issues at gas trading desk and plays a major role in daily sourcing optimization. Provides technical oversight to the group on a regular basis.
• May coordinate with subject matter experts within Calpine to develop market views on a variety of energy-related issues.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the Eastern US physical and financial natural gas markets including, gas scheduling, pipeline transportation, capacity release markets, storage, and financial derivatives

Job Requirements

• Journey – level; typically requires 3+ years’ experience including working knowledge of trading tools and indices, marginal and average pricing and generation commitment techniques.
• Minimum 60 semester hours of college coursework, with an emphasis in Business, Mathematics, Applied Statistics, Accounting, Economics or equivalent; prefer Bachelor’s degree.
