Job Description

About the Opportunity

Gallery Manager | $80-85k

  • Adequate staffing levels are fulfilled at all times
  • Ensure that support is regularly provided to the sales team
  • Daily duties of front desks at all locations are successfully maintained
  • Lead and supervise an Assistant Manager, twelve Gallery Assistants, Sales Interns and Gallery Attendants across all five DZNY locations (DZ69, DZ20, DZHQ, DZ19, 52W). Make daily rounds throughout all spaces, ensuring that:
  • Maintain gallery standards of presentation in each space

What you'll do:

  • Ensure the Front Desk team is adequately trained and onboarded.
  • Conduct regular check ins, and mentor and coach direct reports on a regular basis (including transition processes and performance reviews).
  • Support the gallery operations team as needed to ensure execution of daily gallery operations
  • Manage all aspects of the team's schedule, including time cards, and PTO.
  • Maintain gallery floor and workspaces.
  • Manage upkeep of team training manuals, resource documents, and managerial onboarding/training checklists/documents
  • Effectively coordinate with the New York Sales Team on all sales and operational matters.
  • Manage vendor relationships and invoices
  • Identify areas for improvement and create standardized policies and procedures.
  • Oversee all projects and tasks for Front Desk teams, including the usage of internal project management tools.
  • Oversee all onsite gallery openings and events with the Gallery Assistants.
  • Lead Gallery Assistants through any safety or property issues.
  • Additional tasks as needed/requested
  • Lead weekly team meetings with Gallery Assistants and Sales Interns.
  • Manage team workload to distribute assignments equitably.

What we would like you to have:

  • Strong ability to work independently to uphold the gallery's high standards of presentation.
  • Strong managerial skills and ability to delegate tasks.
  • 3-5 years of working experience preferably in the Art world.
  • Strong knowledge of contemporary art, artists, and the art market.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to provide excellent customer service.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Art or related field.
  • A strong understanding that this role plays a key part in setting the tone for the artist and client experience in the gallery, which is of utmost importance to us at David Zwirner.
  • Highly skilled with problem solving.
