Summary
The Research and Development Formulation Scientist plays a critical role in the development and optimization of formulations for nutraceutical products. This position involves designing experiments, conducting research, and utilizing scientific principles to create high-quality, stable, and efficacious product formulations.
Responsibilities

• Ensure that formulated products meet quality standards, regulatory guidelines, and industry best practices. Collaborate with regulatory and quality teams to address any compliance-related issues.
• Adhere to laboratory safety protocols and follow Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) to ensure a safe and compliant working environment.
• Design and develop new product formulations for pharmaceutical or nutraceutical products, considering factors such as ingredient compatibility, stability, solubility, and bioavailability.
• Design and execute experiments to evaluate different formulations, processes, and raw materials. Analyze and interpret experimental data to draw meaningful conclusions.
• Maintain accurate and detailed records of formulation development activities, experiments, and results. Generate technical reports, protocols, and documentation for regulatory submissions.
• Stay updated with the latest developments in formulation science and technological advancements in the pharmaceutical or nutraceutical industry. Incorporate innovative approaches into formulation strategies.
• Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure successful scale-up of formulations from laboratory to production scale. Provide technical support during manufacturing to troubleshoot any formulation-related challenges.
• Evaluate and select appropriate active ingredients, excipients, and raw materials for use in formulations based on scientific understanding and regulatory requirements.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams including analytical scientists, regulatory affairs, quality control, and manufacturing to ensure alignment with project goals and timelines.
• Optimize existing formulations to enhance product stability, efficacy, and manufacturability. Work to improve product attributes, such as appearance, taste, texture, and release profiles.

Education
Minimum Qualifications
A bachelors in a relevant scientific field (e.g., pharmaceutical sciences, chemistry, biology) with experience of 3+ years in nutraceutical or pharmaceutical industry.
Experience

• Familiarity with industry software and tools used in formulation and research.
• Problem-solving abilities and the capacity to troubleshoot formulation-related challenges.
• Strong background in formulation development and related laboratory techniques.
• Attention to detail and a meticulous approach to experimentation and documentation.
• Experience with designing experiments and analyzing data using statistical tools.
• Proficiency in laboratory equipment and techniques relevant to formulation development.
• Knowledge of pharmaceutical or nutraceutical regulations and guidelines.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working within cross-functional teams.

Work Environment
The work environment is clean, orderly, properly lighted, and ventilated. Noise levels are considered low to moderate. Field conditions vary.
Exposed to various raw materials, including allergens (i.e. milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nut, peanuts, wheat, soy).
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may regularly require grasping items. This position is active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day.
Ability to operate a forklift and other warehouse equipment.
The employee must frequently grasp, lift and/or move and carry items up to 20 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Additional Information
The Salary Range for this position at Lief Labs is $100k - $150k -(USD) annually. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to market demands, experience, training, skills, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, wellness benefits, education reimbursement program, and PTO. This position is bonus eligible.
