Position Summary:

The Formulation Lead is responsible for the formulating, packaging, and testing of all skincare, chemical, and esthetic products. The Formulation Lead is responsible for accurate and efficient formulation in compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), and Good Documentation Practices (GDP). They will lead testing for stability, identification, safety, and other regulatory, company, or customer standards. This position is responsible for leading the department to produce quality products in a safe environment while meeting or exceeding customer expectations for product performance and fulfillment. Follows ISO 22716, GLP, GMP, and other regulating procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Leads scheduled formulation of the company’s chemical cosmetics in an accurate and timely manner, including weighing, measuring, and mixing raw materials and components according to product formula specifications.

2. Accurately documents formulation in batch records utilizing GDP standards,

3. Assists Manufacturing Manager in scheduling production and label creation.

4. Assists the Manufacturing team where needed, to accurately complete various steps in product completion.

5. Ensures inventory of raw goods, finished goods, reagents, and supplies is maintained.

6. Leads junior team members in daily processes.

Education and Experience:

1. Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, or equivalent experience.

2. 3+ years’ work experience in medical devices, consumer products, or the cosmetics industry.

3. Formulation experience in manufacturing in a GMP work environment.

4. Experience in using ERP / warehouse management systems in a manufacturing environment.

5. 3+ years working in compliance with cGMP and GLP regulations in medical, or cosmetics.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

1. Strong knowledge of chemistry, chemical attributes, and terminology.

2. Skill in using manufacturing equipment, such as dispensing pumps, pipettes, and other precision liquid measuring equipment, pH meter, weight balances, and other basic laboratory equipment.

3. Ability to calculate chemical formula weight, multiplication and division, ratio and proportion, and significant figures rounding and reporting.

4. Ability to understand a follow OTC and medical device testing requirements, and formulation protocols.

5. In-depth understanding of Good Document Practices and how they relate to GLP and GMP.

6. Ability to conduct root cause analysis of non-conforming products.

7. Understanding of Safety Data Sheets and how to evaluate raw materials and formulas for safety.

8. Efficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Powerpoint)

9. Proficient in at least 1 common ERP system or WMS system.

10. Works in a safe manner in the laboratory and ensures a clean and organized workspace.

11. Ability to pay high attention to detail and accuracy.

12. Ability to maintain confidentiality.

13. Must be able to work as a team player.

14. Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
