Position Summary
The Food Service Manager oversees all phases of food operations including planning, ordering, cooking, preparing, and dishing, and inventory control for all cafes and the cafeteria, and catering for events. This position also maintains and utilizes software such as registers and order forms and for inventory tracking. Additionally, the Food Service Manager supervises, recruits, and trains classified and hourly staff.
Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule
Position Salary Range: $65,255/year - $91,314/year.
Salary will be determined based on candidate's qualifications and related experience. Typically, new hire starts no higher than $71,770/year based on Bellevue College Exempt salary schedule.
We offer comprehensive compensation package with salary and benefits as the main components. Generous benefits package is offered through Washington State plans that includes multiple medical, dental, life and disability coverage choices for employees and dependents; choices of retirement and deferred compensation plans; paid holidays, sick, and vacation plans; transit program, reduced tuition, employee discounts and memberships, etc.
The employee is scheduled to work 40 hours per workweek. This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act, which means that you are not eligible for overtime pay.

About the Department
Bellevue College (BC) Food Services serves the college main campus by offering a full service cafeteria, three coffee shops and a Pizza Cafe (Housing) that serve hot food, light snacks, pastries, espresso, tea and beverages.
Essential Functions
Food Service
Manages and maintains kitchen and catering equipment.
Ensures proper maintenance and utilization of food service facilities and equipment.
Directs or performs ordering, receiving, inventory, inspection and storage of food and supplies.
Directs food production including work methods, recipe development and customer surveys.
Plans, develops, reviews, implements, and modifies menus, including menus for special dietary restrictions.
Maintains cleanliness and safety standards, follows and upholds all health codes and sanitation regulations.
Plans and directs opening and closing procedures for food service locations and catering.
Ensures that equipment is set up and operates correctly.
Directs staff in maintaining clean, safe, and sufficiently stocked workstations, pantries, and serving areas.
Catering
Works in coordination with the Events Office to plan and coordinate catering for events.
Manages catering for events and coordinates logistics for the preparation and service of food.
Prepares and distributes catering orders for staff to fulfill.
Prepares or coordinates the presentation of food and beverages.
Orders supplies for events, prepares food, coordinates with staff to ensure all catering supplies are complete and ready for events.
Ensures:
that daily catering orders are fulfilled;
quality, accuracy and timely delivery of orders;
proper setup, service, and cleaning of catering areas.
Completes post event order updates in preparation for invoicing.
Administrative
Adheres to budget for food, equipment & beverage, supplies, and labor costs determined by Director
Schedules and supervises staff for food service locations and event catering.
Oversees compliance with food sanitation and safety standards.
Enforces and adheres to college service policies and procedures.
Manages sales systems including point of sale (POS), credit card readers, and daily cash bank reconciliation.
Apply independent judgment in supervising employees including recruiting, selecting and retaining effective employees, providing training and safety programs, defining work assignment and content, and establishing work rules.
Conducts or oversees performance evaluations and disciplinary actions and resolves conflicts and other personnel issues.
Other
Assists other leaders in daily operations.
Provides effective customer service for students, employees, and visitors.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or certificate in Culinary Arts or other related area. Any combination of relevant education and/or experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
At least three (3) years' experience in a large-scale food service or culinary operation.
At least two (2) years' experience supervising employees.
Effective written, verbal, interpersonal, customer service and communication skills.
Demonstrated experience working with diverse colleagues and/or students in a collaborative and inclusive environment.
Ability to:
Work on several projects simultaneously and follow up on projects.
Keep records of inventory and supply levels.
Direct and coordinate staff in food services and catering tasks.
Guide and train staff in the preparation of food and beverages as well as food services equipment and systems.
Knowledge of:
Local and state health regulations.
Food values and nutrition.
Menu preparation.
Food handling, sanitation, and safety precautions.
Care and use of kitchen utensils and equipment.
Point-of-sale systems.
Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)
Position Specific Requirements
Must have King County food handler's permit within 14 days of hire.
Must have valid Washington driver's license to operate the college vehicles.
