Food Scientist Jobs

Summary

We are recruiting for a Food Scientist who will be responsible for supporting the development of food products in support of the Company's business needs. With minimal guidance, the Food Scientist plans and conducts multiple project assignments with project scopes to include supporting new products, quality improvements of existing products, cost optimization of existing products and technical brand maintenance.

Relocation is available for this position.

Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Leads Product Showings to evaluate products developed and the competition.
• Executes with minimal guidance multiple Product Development projects to grow top line volume in support of New Product Development as a % of Revenue goals. Conducts and leads required lab, pilot plant, and plant experimentation.
• Travel 25%
• Proficient knowledge of Product Development including: Materials, food processes, sensory testing, consumer testing, NPD stage gate process, costing, plant trials commercialization, and related processes.
• Promotes applicable safety, regulatory, GMP requirements in lab, pilot plant, and manufacturing facilities. Assists in writing of new policy and procedures as needed.
• Proficient in the knowledge of customer/consumer needs for assigned products and channels. Understands who the consumer is, why and how they use our products.
• Documents all development work accurately. This includes written documentation of lab work, product showing, and plant trials with minimal guidance.
• Prepares accurate and timely specifications for all products developed. This includes materials, formula, processes and finished product with minimal guidance.
• Interacts cross-functionally with Marketing, Purchasing, QA and Operations to successfully implement new product developments.

Minimum Education

Bachelor’s degree in Food/Meat Science or Food Engineering or related field plus 3 - 4 years related work experience or relevant MS or PhD preferred.

Experience Requirements

• Ability to influence necessary cross functional partners for successful implementation of projects. Requires clear written and verbal communication skills.
• Knowledge of ingredients including functionality, allergen considerations and cost.
• Excellent analytical knowledge and problem-solving skills.
• Understanding of food manufacturing processes and the sequence of events necessary to convert raw materials to finished products.
• Requires knowledge of the product development process from idea generation, bench top, scale up and commercialization.

Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements

• May require occasional travel to other offices or buildings.
• Position is mostly sedentary at our corporate office, open-partitioned, cubicle environment.
• May need to move light equipment or supplies from one place to another.
• May need to access files, supplies, and equipment.

The position may occasionally visit a plant facility. When in a plant environment:

• May be exposed to temperatures of 28 degrees to 100 degrees Fahrenheit with both ambient and 100% humidity
• May be exposed to noise ranges of 50 db to 110 db
• Exposure primarily consists of wet and moist floor which include metal and plastic grating surfaces
• May handle product 25 degrees to 50 degrees Fahrenheit
• Must wear and use protective/safety equipment required for the job as directed by the company.
• May be exposed to all chemicals used in poultry/food/processing facility
