Job Description
Overview:


We are currently seeking a Financial Controller to support the VP, International Finance in four key areas in the International Foreign Language Division: Financial monthly profit/balance sheet reporting, accounting controls, business analysis, and transformation.
Responsibilities:
  • Establishes, monitors, and implements the successful implementation of internal controls. Including on-going roll out of best practices and enhancements
  • Provides proactive analysis of business processes and identification of innovative ways to use technology and/or process change to address business needs.
  • Provides analysis and support of M&A targets review, and of major author acquisitions.
  • Coordinates and manages the preparation of the monthly metrics memos/presentations.
  • Provides analytical and strategic support to various strategic initiatives as identified by the international division CEO or by individual business units.
  • Provides accounting guidance and support to internal and external local audit processes for all international non-English language companies.
  • Project manages identified process redesign opportunities by working closely with the business/functional owners as well as finance and central COE teams and IT.
  • Provides analytical support to VP of International Finance and the international division CEO.
  • Supports the establishment and monitoring of policies and procedures in alignment with global HarperCollins and News Corp requirements.
  • Tracks performance against identified opportunities and plans.
  • Supports the VP of International Finance and the CEO of the international division in developing strategies with financial analysis.
  • Provides information to management by assembling and summarizing data; preparing reports; making presentations of findings, analyses, and recommendations.
  • Helps define business requirements for identified technology solutions, COE processes and service levels.
  • Assists in the timely and accurate monthly financial close: analyzes results including variance analysis.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or equivalent educational and on the job experience
  • 6-8 years of experience in financial positions of increasing responsibility, including 3-5 years as Controller
  • Skill in translating analytics and statistics to presentations and documents
  • Proficiency in MS PowerPoint
  • Reading proficiency in Spanish, French or Italian a plus
  • Experience with financial reporting requirements both internally and externally
  • Experience working with multiple legal entities under different legal umbrellas
  • Project management and project leadership experience
  • CPA required
  • Proficiency in advanced Excel, including model building, pivot tables and a working knowledge/ or understanding of business intelligence platforms.
  • Exhibits creative thinking to be able to propose inventive solutions to solve business challenges
  • Adaptable, organized, and takes initiative
  • Ability to provide subject matter expertise for analytical based processes
  • Extensive knowledge of US GAAP accounting principals
  • Auditing experience; Compliance-oriented

The salary range for this position is $135,000-$150,000. We recognize that attracting the best talent is key to our strategy and success as a company. Pay-for-performance is a key element in our strategy to attract, engage, and motivate talented people to do their best work. Accordingly, offers extended for this role will include an annual incentive opportunity expressed as a percentage of salary or a fixed amount. Similarly to salary, annual incentive opportunity targets are set based on a variety of factors including competitive market practice.
