The University of Southern California is home to a dynamic research and organizational improvement center that works with professionals in educational institutions, corporations, and other contexts. The mission of the USC Race and Equity Center is to illuminate, disrupt, and dismantle racism in all its forms. We do this through rigorous interdisciplinary research, high-quality professional learning experiences, the production and wide dissemination of useful tools, trustworthy consultations and strategy advising, and substantive partnerships. While race and ethnicity are at the epicenter of our work, we also value their intersectionality with other, identities, and therefore aim to advance equity for all persons experiencing marginalization. The Center annually serves hundreds of K-12 schools and districts, colleges and universities, and businesses and agencies across a multitude of industries.
The USC Race and Equity Center is searching for an extremely organized, equity-minded professional to manage our robust portfolio of grants, contracts, and gifts. The Finance Manager will collaboratively support the Center’s four operational portfolios, as well as process payments to nearly 200 consultants who design and deliver work in partnership with our full-time staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Creating and sending invoices, making deposits, and following up on outstanding payments.
- Collaborating with teams within the Center to create project budgets, establish payment systems for unique program offerings, and track income by project.
- Identifying opportunities for improved efficiencies and business operation.
- Other duties as assigned by the Center’s directors and executive leadership team.
- Managing grant and contract submissions, and ensuring timely processing of agreements.
- Collaborating with colleagues in the USC Rossier School of Education Business Office on financial transactions, including reporting for grant-funded projects and allocating staff time to projects.
- Preparing budgets for grant submissions to foundations, federal and state governments, and other entities.
- Contributing to the advancement of the USC Race and Equity Center’s mission.
- Overseeing cash flow and insuring balance between accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Representing the Center on various University of Southern California committees.
- Preparing financial reports and presentations for internal and external audiences.
- Constantly aiming to understand the current and evolving needs of the center’s various portfolios.
- Preparing, monitoring, and managing the Center’s budget.
- Maintaining the highest level of responsiveness to center employees, clients, and consultants.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or a similar related field.
- Work Experience: At least 5 years of professional work experience.
Desired Expertise:
Demonstrated commitment to racial equity. Extraordinary ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects and tasks in finance-related positions and complex organizational settings. Strong oral and written communication skills.
The hourly rate range for this position is $34.92-$39.88. Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree, Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education Minimum Experience: 1 year Minimum Field of Expertise: Business administration, accounting or related degree and budget experience including knowledge of government and fund accounting. Strong computer skills with use of automated spreadsheets.
