Overview:
- Ensure that all testing equipment used is functioning properly, maintained as required by company and/or manufacturer's policy, and that all calibrated equipment is within its calibration cycle
- Operating testing equipment; ensure that all test equipment used is functioning properly and maintained as required by the company and/or manufacturer's policy and that all calibrated equipment is within its calibration cycle
- Must be flexible to changing schedules and hours to support business needs; overnight and weekends schedules may be necessary to support business needs
- Complete daily time and labor reports in accordance with company policy
- Turn in required paperwork daily
- Other duties may be assigned
- Prepare testing reports using Field Data Collection (FDC) software; ability to write and retrieve emails using Microsoft Outlook
- Regular attendance is required; technicians must arrive on time for scheduled jobs
- Return samples to the office for testing
- Must be willing to travel within the state of Florida, if applicable
- Report data in an accurate, complete, timely, and understandable fashion in accordance with applicable testing procedures
- Follow all company safety procedures and policies
- Operate a motor vehicle; maintain company vehicle (schedule oil changes, check fluid levels, inside/outside upkeep)
- Ensure that project testing requirements are met and compliant with project specifications, requirements, and company policies or procedures
- Drive to job sites and conduct testing of soil, concrete, and other construction materials
- Communicate with dispatching and/or field supervisor, advising of current job status and locations as required; cellular phones are to be worn at all times, and calls are to be returned immediately
- Regular attendance is required
- Ability to read & write, including interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, as well as the ability to write routine reports and correspondence and speak effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and customers/clients
- Mathematical skills sufficient to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Valid Florida Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record (in accordance with our Driver’s License and Motor Vehicle Record Check Criteria)
- Ability to pass a background check screening in accordance with Florida’s Jessica Lunsford Act (or equivalent state classification)
- Computer skills sufficient to operate a laptop, including sending and receiving emails, and the ability to learn Field Data Collection (FDC)/Inspector Gadget to input data and prepare reports
- Reasoning ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram form
- Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Construction Training Qualification Program (CTQP) certifications in field testing
- Construction and/or engineering experience
- American Concrete Institute (ACI) Certifications in field testing
- Job site conditions may or may not be accessible by vehicle, including wetlands, swamps, grasslands, and fields with uneven surfaces, sand, brush, and other natural and man-made obstacles
- Weights in the range of 35 – 75+ pounds (concrete cylinders and soils) are lifted frequently (From 15% to 30% of the task period) with a range of 5 - 15 repetitions per hour, with or without reasonable accommodation
- Required to drive, stand, walk, use hands to type, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance, talk, and hear; body motions and movements include bending, twisting, reaching, stooping, pulling, kneeling, lifting, carrying, and pushing, with or without reasonable accommodation
- The testing process for the various construction materials (i.e., soils, concrete, asphalt, etc.) is repetitive in nature several times per hour
- On average the workdays range from 7 - 12 hours
- The technician’s primary duty is to test soil densities and concrete samples (air, temperature, mix design, etc.), as well as testing other construction materials. Testing these samples requires extensive manual lifting and handling
- The testing work is performed outside on the field with exposure to: dirt, dust, sun, heat, and humidity
- The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation
- This job is primarily and regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and construction sites where the noise level is usually moderate to loud
- Weights in the 0-75-pound range are lifted frequently (From 33% up to 66% of the task period) with a frequency range 10 – 35 repetitions per hour, with or without reasonable accommodation
- Construction materials are manually lifted and carried distances on average ranging from a few feet to 75 feet, but may occasionally exceed 75 ft in walking distance and are unloaded manually at our lab and carried inside for testing, with or without reasonable accommodation
