Farm Operations Coordinator
Location: Tewksbury, MA
Walden is searching for a passionate Farm Operations Coordinator to assist the Supply team with administrative and analytical coordination and support. We are a 10 year old rapidly growing B corp that is looking to advance our supply operations capabilities!
We’re searching for a Farm Operations Coordinator to support our Supply team’s quality control program across our current territory (New England and New York) with a primary focus on building and implementing internal systems for supply planning, standards compliance and measuring impact against our mission, vision and values. This is a newly created role that will report directly to our Director of Strategic Partnerships and take over a core component of administrative and operational support functions for the current Supply team. The ideal candidate for this role will completely own and create new processes and programs in farm and supply operations.
You will spend a large portion of your time maintaining coordinating and supporting farm operations including contact with members of your team, the finance and supply planning team, farm partners and processors. You should have a passion for regenerative farming practices, sustainability, animal welfare, and leverage that passion to maintain effective working relationships with our stakeholders. You will have a significant role on the team as the primary administrative contact of Walden Local at our partner facilities and to our farm partners across the region. Due to the hybrid nature of the position, you will need to be comfortable working independently at home with some time in our Tewksbury, MA office as needed, likely two to three days a week.
What You’ll Do
- Work with Supply Planning to gather and analyze relevant data
- Support additional Supply team activities and initiatives as needed
- Promoting, protecting, and improving Walden’s standards and the health of our agricultural community
- Building and managing a virtual Partner affidavit and contract database that is easily accessible by other Walden employees across the region
- Coordinate with other Supply teammates to ensure integrity is maintained throughout life cycle of animals bound for Walden’s supply chain
- Serve as primary point of contact for scheduling of processing across all proteins and relevant affidavit collection and confirm slaughter dates and head count with farmers and processors prior to drop off
- Create and maintain robust database of Walden owned cattle across multiple locations, to include weights, feed consumption and rates of gain
- Coordinate between Beef Program Management and Supply team to optimize processing schedule based on animal readiness to foresee and communicate potential gaps or surpluses in available animals dependent upon program needs
- Assist in developing third party reporting methods in partnership with your Supply teammates
- Ensuring our farms hit their third party performance expectations and requirements (e.g. GAP certification, Walden standards)
- Attend relevant conferences and classes as a Walden Local ambassador and representative
What You’ll Bring
- Ability to hold yourself accountable when working independently
- Confidence in new situations and the ability to work independently/remotely
- Extremely observant, high attention to detail and ability to stay on top of necessary and deadline specific paperwork
- Familiarity with regenerative agricultural and animal welfare practices for the meat industry
- Strong Experience with Excel and Data Analyzing
- Must demonstrate strong and professional communication skills, ask questions, lead with positivity, and focus on ethical, accurate and positive outcomes.
- Excellent interpersonal skills in all mediums of communication (written, video, verbal and in person) with employees across all levels of the organization, farm partners and processing plant staff
- Passion about Walden’s mission to grow sustainable, local food systems and agriculture in the Northeast
Bonus points if you have...
- Prior experience working in a USDA slaughter facility, meat processing facility or livestock production farm
- Experience with grants or grant writing
Don’t check all the boxes? Don’t worry! We know that there is no such thing as a ‘perfect' candidate. Walden Local is committed to building a team that brings passion for our mission and a diverse set of experiences and opinions. Feel welcomed to bring your whole and authentic self and please apply if this is a role you feel passionately about! We read cover letters and encourage you to submit one that highlights your unique experience and interest in this role.
