Exercise Specialist - Fitness Center

Summary
Job Summary
Exercise specialists work with members at CoxHealth Fitness Centers, handling personal training, FitLife appointments, fitness orientations, and fitness follow-ups. They do fitness assessments, interpret results, and construct appropriate fitness prescriptions for individuals and small groups. They collect baseline data and follow up to allow evaluation of progress by members and their health care providers. They educate members about their fitness status relative to age and sex-matched norms and motivate members to begin and continue their healthy behaviors by establishing attainable fitness goals. Can teach group exercise classes depending on scheduling availability. They complete projects designated by the fitness manager or operations manager. In some fitness centers, they assists with all daily business operations.
Job Requirements
Education
Required: Bachelor’s Degree in exercise or fitness related discipline
Experience
Preferred: Experience in a fitness setting and providing exercise prescriptions according to ACSM guidelines and ability to teach group exercise classes
Skills
Expertise in the areas of fitness and group exercise
Ability to take blood pressure and heart rate
Strong communication and people skills and positive attitude
Self-motivated individual who can work independently with little direct supervision
Ability to manage multiple assignments and projects at one time and ability to work under pressure
Maintain current knowledge of health and fitness guidelines and standards
Licensure/Certification/Registration
Required: Group exercise or personal training certification from a nationally recognized certifying organization within 90 days of hire AND BLS must be obtained within 90 days of hire
