Job Description
Position Summary:
University Development and Alumni Relations (UDAR) is dedicated to soliciting the private funding necessary to support the strategic goals of the University in teaching, learning, and research. The personnel of UDAR work university-wide as well as within individual schools and colleges of the University to discover, motivate, cultivate, solicit, and steward alumni, parents, faculty, and friends for immediate, long-range, and future financial support, through gifts and pledges to the University, for critical operations such as student aid, faculty support, academic and research program development, and facilities and infrastructure. UDAR's endeavors raise funds for immediate University use and also for the University's endowment.

The Prospect Development team in the University Development and Alumni Relations (UDAR) office is comprised of individuals with remarkable skills and competencies ranging from specialized industry, language, and primary source knowledge to statistical and data manipulation capabilities. Reporting to the Vice President, Development, the Executive Director of Prospect Development leads team efforts to provide research, information, and analysis in support of institutional goals and in partnership with unit leaders and frontline gift officers. Knit together the component functions of Prospect Development (prospect research and prospect management) in creative and supportive ways to ensure a seamless and agile organization characterized by both individual contributions and teamwork stemming from clear goals and objectives.

As a member of the Development leadership team, the Executive Director is positioned to innovate and enhance the organization's prospect development and pipeline approach. In addition to the principal duties of this role, the Executive Director builds and structures the utilization of internal and external resources and competencies to identify, evaluate, and effectively describe gift prospects. Create written materials synthesizing information and effectively disseminate and present based on audience and situation. Provide analysis of overall prospect pools and targeted groups to support planning and projections. Provide analysis and suggest suitable strategies for individual and organizational prospects in relation to institutional fundraising opportunities. This role will establish and maintain strong and effective relationships with individuals and units throughout UDAR and the larger university community that provide or benefit from research information. Train, assist, and counsel staff on research and analysis information, resources and techniques, and prospect management principles. Communicate regularly with division colleagues on prospect management, research, and identification initiatives. The Executive Director will serve as the subject matter expert for prospect research and prospect data management.

Qualifications:
Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree

Preferred Education:
Master's Degree

Required Experience:
7+ years of progressive experience in higher education working in prospect development, including prospect research, prospect management, and data analysis with a proven track record of success

Preferred Experience:
10+ years of research experience including extensive management and team building experience, or a combination of relevant experience and education
Proficiency in managing core prospect development functions: prospect research, prospect management, and and data analytics
Experience with Blackbaud CRM

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Demonstrated ability as a self-directed leader who can mold existing pieces and processes into a definitive integrated program
Collaborative skills to navigate a variety of perspectives is essential
Proven ability to actively and sensitively manage and lead a team or functional area
Ability to analyze, interpret, summarize, and present information effectively
Evidence of thought leadership in the application of information to drive continual improvement
An understanding of the development process in multiple types of environments and experience with a high-functioning operation essential
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality, handling materials and situations with sensitivity and discretion
Ability to communicate effectively; exceptional and succinct writing/reporting skills are essential
Ability to make effective and persuasive presentations to internal and external groups and individuals
Experience with CRM databases and MS Office products
Additional Information:
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $145,000.00 to USD $185,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
