Position Overview

The Generator Service Technician will install, repair, and perform routine and preventive maintenance on generators and transfer switches. Reporting Relationship: The Generator Technician reports to the Generator Service Manager

Responsibilities/Accountabilities

• Perform other duties as assigned
• Perform onsite troubleshooting and diagnostics of mechanical and electrical systems
• Stay up to date on company-sponsored safety training, compliance, and knowledge of HAZ MAT and DOT requirements
• Create and maintain great relationships with customers
• Continually train and develop to advance to next levels of Generator Technician
• Maintain knowledge of updated changes in various models of equipment
• Perform repairs and preventive maintenance of industrial generators
• Evaluate and recommend required repairs to customers

Skills/Knowledge

• Basic knowledge of gas and/or diesel engine repair and maintenance, or willingness to learn
• Possess troubleshooting skills and be able to effectively operate basic shop equipment
• Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams and schematics
• Ability to work with a variety of computer software to complete day-to-day tasks
• Ability to work with a range of tools, from wrenches to multimeters
• Knowledge of repair and maintenance of electrical systems ranging from 5 VDC to 480 VAC, or willingness to learn

Travel Expectations: Up to 50% based on HMC projects and time of year.

Qualifications

Have the ability to provide turnkey leadership for small and large projects. Interact with customers on energy efficiency options, cost benefit comparisons and communicate results to assist the owner in the decision making process. Be able to manage the engineering team's project financial performance and schedule. Participate in client and business development meetings.
What are we looking for?

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering with a minimum of ten (10) years' experience required
• A NY Professional Engineering (PE) license is mandatory
• CAD experience
• Direct involvement in building infrastructure and/or energy reduction initiatives (consulting) experience required
• Building Power Distribution/Lighting experience required
• Proficiency with planning, scheduling and coordinating detailed phases of projects
