Job Description

As our Executive Director of Labor Relations, you’ll work with people across departments to ensure our hospital complies with labor and safety regulations and give guidance to employees, management and union reps alike. You’ll shine as an active participant in union negotiations as a representative for management and play a key role in ensuring our teams work effectively together, guided by your exemplary leadership.

Position Summary:
Responsible for the management and leadership of Employee Labor Relations within Human Resources. Maintain oversight responsibility for all regulatory and performance improvement activities that includes the development of strategic plans, policies and procedures. Represents management in union negotiations. Implements and administers collective bargaining agreements. Provides advice and guidance to University Hospital employees, management, and union representatives. Coordinates with all departments working directly with staff to ensure compliance with state, federal and regulatory standards. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. No patient care assignment.


Detailed responsibilities:
  • LABOR RELATIONS - Advise University Hospital administration and management on collective bargaining agreement provisions
  • LEGAL - Identify legal liability and confer with legal counsel
  • STRATEGIC INITIATIVES - Responsible for integrating strategic initiatives across assigned areas to ensure the development and delivery of high-quality services
  • COORDINATION - Serve as liaison for department; coordinate activities in collaboration with other divisions, departments and outside agencies and organizations; respond and resolve inquiries and complaints
  • LEADERSHIP – Provide leadership, oversight and supervision to ensure the highest quality and best possible delivery of services that promote the highest levels of employee and patient satisfaction
  • POLICIES - Manage and participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies and procedures for assigned area(s); monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures
  • GOALS AND PLANS - Participate in the development of long-range goals and strategic plans for assigned area
  • MEDIATOR - Serve as mediator between employees and union representatives as requested
  • LABOR RELATIONS - Direct and oversee union and management contract negotiations
  • REPRESENTATIVE - Serve as the University Hospital representative in all union matters pertaining to employee disciplinary actions, promotions, demotions, transfers, layoffs and wage and salary administration
  • LABOR RELATIONS - Ensure compliance with and implementation of provisions set forth in bargaining agreements
  • INVESTIGATION - Direct and manage investigations of complaints of alleged discrimination, sexual harassment and other charges filed with various federal, state and local governments
  • REPORTS - Prepare and maintain a variety of reports pertaining to employee and labor relations; analyze and interpret reports as required; identify and recommend areas of improvement through data research and statistical analysis
  • COMPLIANCE - Advise management on Human Resources policies and procedures to ensure compliance
  • LABOR RELATIONS - Design, develop and implement Labor Relation programs
  • DEVELOPMENT - Attend and participate in professional meetings and committees; stay abreast of new trends and innovations
  • DIRECTION - Provide guidance, mentorship, and leadership to managers and staff
  • TRAINING - Coordinate and conduct personnel training sessions as requested
