Job Description
To save nature we need more, and more diverse, people taking action for nature and the RSPB’s events team has a critical role to play in helping us to achieve this.


Whether it is running exclusive events for our members to deepen their engagement with the RSPB or developing experiential opportunities for us to reach new audiences and start people on their journey with connection to nature as the Events Development Manager you will have a fantastic opportunity to have a real impact for nature.


If you are an experienced team manager with excellent interpersonal skills and a passion for delivering impactful, audience-led events then we need you to develop and deliver an inspiring events strategy to support our mission.


Key Activities Will Include


  • Designing and implementing an events strategy for the RSPB that focuses on deepening engagement with existing supporters, drives more action for nature (including through income), delivers brand reach and recognition, and engages new and more diverse audiences.
  • Bringing innovation in events into the organisation by keeping up to date with developments within the sector and identifying opportunities to test and learn through new approaches.
  • Reviewing our online events platform and implementing any changes to ensure the systems we use are fit for purpose and offering value for money.
  • Management of an events team to ensure a high standard of delivery in events and prioritising our resource to deliver maximum ROI.
  • Overall responsibility for the annual events budget.
  • Leading on internal stakeholder management across the business (including at Executive Board level) and owning day-to-day relationships with established external suppliers.


Essential Skills, Knowledge And Experience


  • Excellent written and verbal skills to present, influence and represent the team and the organisation.
  • Demonstrable experience of all aspects of event management including experience of delivering large scale events (+100 attendees) both in-person and virtual.
  • Able to work under pressure; managing competing priorities, making decisions and adapting to meet changing circumstances as required.
  • Proven ability to both develop strategy and then translate that strategy into delivery with a good understanding of how to set objectives and outcomes for an event.
  • Understanding of commercial opportunities within the events space, including corporate partnerships and sponsorship.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, able to develop collaborative relationships internally and externally to deliver positive outcomes.
  • Experience of planning and monitoring events budgets ensuring value for money and strong return on investment (financial and non-financial returns).
  • Proven leadership and people management skills.


This is a Permanent Full-Time role for 37.5 hours per week.
