Position Description
This position is responsible for supporting the X-energy environmental licensing and permitting efforts with the U.S. NRC and applicable Federal, State, and local agencies. This person will support portions of licensing application development and interface between the X-energy team (licensing, design, and analysis engineers) and the U.S. NRC. This includes relevant topic areas of financial, environmental laws, nuclear safety, nuclear security, emergency planning, and safeguards primarily applied to the X-energy reactor design.
Responsibilities:
  • Provide regulatory support to licensing engineers in developing technical requirements for the Xe-100 that will ensure compliance with NRC regulatory frameworks.
  • Lead regulatory activities (certifications, permits, approvals, and licenses associated with the Xe-100) and ensure milestones are met as agreed with the U.S. NRC.
  • Support planning and executing the X-energy regulatory strategy.
  • Lead development of regulatory white papers, technical and licensing topical reports associated with environmental report development and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) implementation.
  • Write regulatory responses and submit them in accordance with the regulatory guidelines.
  • Lead the licensing team in their interface with the regulators’ project managers in executing the regulatory engagement plan, negotiating review schedules, and supporting regulatory audits and RAI’s (Requests for additional Information).
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager.
  • Actively support the safety culture and ensure integration of quality in licensing processes by complying with the requirements of the Quality Assurance Program.

Qualifications:
  • Detailed knowledge of NRC environmental regulatory requirements and guidance such as Regulatory Guides 4.2, 4.7 and NUREG-1555 preferred.
  • Ability to work in a team to produce high quality licensing and permitting documents.
  • 10-14 years relevant experience in NRC environmental licensing activities or State environmental permitting compliance (such as NPDES, NESHAPs, and National Historic Preservation Act). NEPA compliance experience preferred.
  • BS in Engineering or Science (i.e., Mechanical, Civil, Nuclear, Electrical, Physics, Environmental).
  • US work authorization.
