Entry-Level Electrical Combustion Engineer

We are seeking an entry-level Electrical Combustion Engineer to support the rolled products business unit at a large aluminum mill in Davenport, IA.

Job Summary:

This role will provide combustion engineering services to safely meet the companys business plan by providing support to production, maintenance, and engineering. In this role, you will serve as a critical team member in the efficiency, output, and quality of our processes and will be responsible for combustion systems safely integrated with manufacturing, along with upgrades of existing equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and participate in problem solving efforts with multi-discipline technical staff, maintenance and production. Drive resolution of chronic problems within area of expertise & organize support from other resources when necessary.
• While this position is a primarily day-shift position, off-hours support will be required as needed.
• Coordinate all phases of assigned area thermal engineering projects from concept, scope development, written specifications, bid solicitations, design, manufacturing, installation, equipment commissioning, and project closure.
• Ability to navigate Rockwell PLCs for troubleshooting
• Provide engineering and operational support for large capital improvement projects.
• Be relied upon by plant resources for advice and direction on capital and process solutions.
• Optimization of process equipment
• Provide equipment, control, and process training to the technical base.
• PLC/HMI and controls redesign and upgrades of existing processes
• Use PI Vision and Data Link to analyze process issues and provide input to solve problems.
• Participate in technical assessments of equipment.
• Create and develop combustion control solutions that will support process improvements and improve equipment reliability.
• Develop and deploy standard practices.
• Assist production and maintenance with equipment and process issues.
• Sponsor, participate, and occasionally lead development projects.
• May mentor employees to increase their knowledge of equipment and process.
• Maintain a working relationship with vendors and current contractors of thermal and combustion equipment and be knowledgeable of external developments.

Requirements

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or mechanical

Required:

• Minimum of 1 year of Electrical or Mechanical Engineer experience in a manufacturing environment (co-op, internships can be included)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. citizenship (visa sponsorship is not available for this position)
• Engineering with PLC experience

Preferred:

• 3 years or more of experience in leading electrical projects
• Experience with combustion systems (maintenance).
• Proficiency with Rockwell programming software (i.e.: RS Logix and FactoryView)
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Project programs
• 3 years’ experience with PLCs, HMIs, AC/DC drives & motors and measuring instruments.
