Job Description
Overview
RTI International’s Center for Official Statistics (COS) is seeking an early career statistician with SAS skills to work on projects in a variety of domains, such as public health, health care, education, and social science studies, as well as sample survey and experimental designs and statistical research. COS statisticians lead and support projects, which are often surveys for federal clients, and they conduct cutting-edge research in survey and sample design, modeling, and statistical analysis. COS is in RTI’s Analytics Practice Area, which comprises a collaborative, diverse group of researchers with backgrounds including statistics, data science, informatics, and genomics. This position requires the ability to work independently and as a member of a team to deliver high quality work. Eighty to ninety percent of daily work is at a computer, and the remainder of the position-time would be in project planning meetings and conference calls.

  • Import and export data from statistical software in common formats, including CSV and XLSX
  • Balance the programming and analytic needs of multiple projects simultaneously
  • Conduct basic significance testing including t and chi-square tests
  • Produce descriptive tabular analyses, including variable value frequencies, cross-tabulations, and group means, and graphical analyses, including scatter plots, bar charts, and histograms
  • Develop, document, and verify the correctness of original data processing or statistical programs in SAS or R to satisfy requests provided in varying levels of formality and detail
  • Communicate the results of analyses verbally or in writing, and solicit clarification or further detail at appropriate points in the analytic process
  • Manipulate and process data to join data sets, derive new variables, edit existing variables, and reshape data files to suit specific analytic needs
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • Demonstrated data manipulation and data management skills
  • At least 3 months of non-academic experience working with SAS and Excel
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States and should not require now, or in the future, sponsorship for employment visa status
  • Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, or Mathematics
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with other statistical software (e.g., R, Stata, and SPSS) and other software, such as Python and Linux/CRON, is a plus
