Job Description
Montgomery College, Rockville Campus, has an immediate need for a full-time Enrollment Services VA Specialist, in Records and Registration. The work schedule is Monday – Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm. This is a non-bargaining, non-exempt, grade 23 position.
For non-exempt positions, you are not eligible to work a secondary job at Montgomery College. This position is eligible for telework up to one day per week after successful completion of initial employment probationary period and approval of the department.
The Enrollment Services VA Specialist serves as Veterans Affairs (VA) School Certifying Official for Montgomery College and assist veterans and active military personnel with the GI Bill and other educational benefits.
Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Create education plans Active Duty personnel for Federal Tuition Assistances (TA).
  • Maintain files for veterans for the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) requirements and Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC) required compliance audit.
  • Certify student enrollment for VA benefits.
  • Develop and maintain broad knowledge of GI Bill benefits for certifying veterans for educational benefits.
  • Serve as College liaison to Department of Veterans Affairs in DC and the Buffalo Regional Office, the Maryland Higher Education Commission in Baltimore and to local Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) Vocational Rehabilitation specialists.
  • Inform students regarding their eligibility for GI Bill educational benefits processes, include but not limited to application process for admission, GI Bill education benefits, regulations of the GI Bill and student code of conduct, deadlines of transfer application, registration, payment process, verification forms and eligible programs.
  • Submit reports to Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC) regarding new curriculum and update programs.
  • Submit a variety of reports to the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) and different branches of the military such as the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
  • Perform graduation audits each semester to ensure students' classes are required for their curriculum. Verify prior training and college credits each semester.
  • Submit VA applications and supporting documents to the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA).
Required Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in using a personal computer and software applications including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Two years of experience working in admissions, registration or an enrollment office at a college or university to including either direct experience certifying Veterans Affairs benefits and/or experience working with veterans/active duty service members in another related capacity.
  • The equivalent combination of education, training, certification and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and expertise to perform the essential functions of the job may be considered.
  • Working knowledge of GI Bill benefits, federal and state applicable laws and regulations; of in-state tuition for undocumented individuals; of immigration statues and visa codes; of academic, residential and tuition policy regulations; of tuition waiver for disabled students; of tuition assistance; and of automated processing. Some knowledge of veteran and military personnel recruitment.
  • Working knowledge of Veterans Affairs sponsored educational benefits and certification of these benefits in a higher education environment.
  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship.
  • Associate’s degree.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated proof reading skills and creativity for developing user-friendly print and web-based publications.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Three years of experience working with the Department of Veterans Affairs.
  • Experience working with a diverse population.
  • Knowledge of Veterans’ Educational Benefits and previous experience leading to the certification of these benefits for an institution for higher education.
Hiring Range: $24.45 to $ 31.77 per hour commensurate with education and experience. Initial salary placement is based on candidate experience and internal equity. Please include a complete resume/application including all relevant or related experience.
