Job Description
Job Summary: The Endoscopy Technician has three (3) main functional areas, those areas will be outlined below, to include general ambulatory surgery center duties. The focus of an Endo Tech is to be accountable for the delivery of safe, and quality patient care.
Supervisory Responsibility: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
General Tasks
  • Comply with ethical, professional, and legal standards inherent in-patient care and professional conduct.
  • Provide and maintain a safe environment for the patient and staff by complying with all regulatory requirements and/or guidelines. These requirements/guidelines include but are not limited to AAAHC standards, Medicare and state specific guidelines, OSHA, HIPPA, Federal Fraud and Abuse Laws.
  • Knowledgeable of potential exposure to hazardous materials (i.e. patient body fluids, disinfectant chemicals).
  • Practice infection control and standard precautions as trained or instructed.
  • Disinfect carts and equipment between patients and maintain standards to provide a safe, clean, and orderly environment.
  • Maintain an adequate inventory of linens and supplies for the unit, to include par levels of supplies within endoscopy procedure rooms.
  • Handle equipment appropriately and in a manner to prevent damage.
Procedure Room
  • Ensure that all the equipment is correct for the procedure and in good working order.
  • Set up and assist physician with procedures.
  • Safely deliver endoscopes to and from the procedure room.
  • Document thoroughly, accurately, and appropriately for each procedure.
  • Collect, label, and send specimens with the correct paperwork out of the procedure room.
Scope Cleaning
  • Maintain documentation of reprocessing safety checks to include all scope repairs, disinfectant, and filter change records.
  • Monitor and record chemical concentrations per policy to ensure high level disinfection of equipment is complete.
  • Handle all scopes in and out of scope washers for proper disinfection.
  • Manually leak test, brush, and clean endoscopes.
  • Notify supervisor of any damage found while processing the scopes.
Patient Admission
  • Escort patient/families through and assist in checking in of patients as scheduled or needed.
  • Accurately obtain vital signs as indicated and document on chart.
  • Assist in data collection to identify the patients needs, problems, concerns, or human responses.

  • Responsible for compliance with all regulatory requirements and/or guidelines. These requirements/guidelines include, but are not limited to: OSHA, HIPAA, Federal Fraud and Abuse laws.

Education and Qualifications
  • BLS certification required.
  • Must possess knowledge of acceptable parameters of pulse oximetry and blood pressures, blood borne pathogens and aseptic techniques.
  • High School graduate required.
  • Previous medical office experience is preferable.
  • Must have sufficient strength to move carts, and assist patients while walking.
  • Previous experience with computers is required.
Location Specific Requirements
  • Certification/Licensure: G.I. Scope Reprocessing certification upon hire or obtain within 2 years. Scope room staff who were employed as Scope Technicians prior to the 1/1/2017 TN law are not required to have certification. Gastro One requires certification as part of ongoing employment and certification must be maintained throughout employment. Staff must work under a certified scope reprocessor/grandfathered scope room staff until certification is achieved. All staff working in the scope room must maintain 6 Sterile Processing IAHCSMM Specific CEUs annually.
  • Travel: Dayton Gastro Endo Techs are required to float/travel to all DG locations as needed/required. Incumbent must be capable & able to travel and have reliable transportation.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. Understand/comprehend English as well as read/ follow written English instructions.
This role requires continuous activity levels in areas such as walking, standing, pushing, pulling, lifting, and reaching. It also requires dexterity in motion/flexibility. Ability to lift, push or pull 35+ or more. Must be able to differentiate colors and successfully pass color blind screening.
Work Environment
This job operates in a clinic and procedure room environment. There is potential to be exposed to blood, tissue, and bodily fluids. Involves exposure to Glutaraldehyde/Rapicide (Refer to SDS manual as needed).
