Our people division is growing, and we are looking for a Chief Electrical Engineer with our Energy & Asset Management department. The successful candidate is responsible for managing and overseeing all aspects of mining Electrical Engineering projects under the realm of responsibility and authority and is accountable for all contractors, construction workers, supporting engineers, and NGM staff assigned to projects as required.

Responsibilities:

  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of other peripheral engineering roles, and cognizant of overlaps and impacts to one another during every project phase.
  • Approve and oversee quality control tasks against budgets, schedules, plans, and personnel performance, and produce and distribute project status reports at the predetermined frequency to relevant parties as required.
  • Proactively analyze problems as they occur and develop countermeasures to remediate the problem while remaining cognizant to not introduce other problems because of the implemented countermeasures.
  • Accountable and responsible for defining Electrical Engineering designs for functionality, reliability, requirement compliance, ease-of-assembly, and cost reduction targets while conforming to applicable IEEE, NEC, and NFPA 70E standards.
  • Approve and oversee resolutions to problems associated with Electrical Engineering projects including designs, compliance with IEEE, NEC, and NFPA 70E standards, peripheral engineering, and/or construction recognizing problems will vary in severity and may require advanced project management knowledge to ensure adequate resolution.
  • Accountable and responsible to ensure Electrical Engineering specifications and criteria comply with applicable government (OSHA, MSHA, EPA, etc.) and corporate codes, practices, policies, standards, and specifications.
  • Approve and oversee Risk and Consequences Analysis for Electrical Engineering projects to understand both risks as well as opportunities that may occur during each project phase and act upon them accordingly.
  • Approve and oversee proposals and cost estimates for Electrical Engineering projects including required equipment, materials, personnel, and other peripheral services.
  • Approve and oversee Electrical Engineering projects to ensure they remain within the constraints of time, cost, and scope, and report any significant deviations (+/- 15%) including proposed countermeasures.
  • Champion and in-depth knowledge and understanding of DROM (Design for Reliability, Operability, and Maintainability), OR (Operational Readiness), Business Improvements, Asset Management, and Reliability and apply essential practices when required.
  • Accountable and responsible for ensuring the seven project phases concept (Identify, Prepare, Appraise, Present, Implement, Monitor, and Evaluate) are used by the Electrical Engineering group for all projects.
  • Accountable and responsible to ensure the Electrical Engineering group creates design block diagrams, design schematics, selects electrical equipment conforming to NGM standardization policies, evaluates design capability, performs circuit analysis, analyze designs for failure modes, and supports qualification testing.
  • Approve capital appropriates requests initiated by the Electrical Engineering group including ensuring all required supporting documentation is assembled, and champion the project to seek funding approval.

  • Extensive knowledge of project prioritization, project execution, project management, including knowledge of construction, commissioning, handover, and post-project activities.
  • Champion for advocating for operational excellence and continuous improvement in all aspects of the business and sets an example for others to follow.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with electric power distribution, design, and operation of medium and high voltage systems.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with power transmission, full electrical product cycle, power control and protection systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills at all levels within the organization.
  • Champion and lead by being a change agent to promote and drive change in the face of uncertainty and adversity.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with medium and high voltage distribution systems in mining and/or heavy process industries.
  • Extensive knowledge of applicable engineering and peripheral codes, policies, standards, and best practices
  • Exemplary sense of ethics and integrity with the expectation others within AIM and the organization will adhere to the same standard.
  • Demonstrated commitment to seeking opportunities and leveraging them to help sustain a robust AIM program.
  • Extensive experience with interfacing with multiple functions and roles and at all levels within the organization.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with electrical maintenance systems.
  • Extensive knowledge of contract management and managing contractors.
  • Extensive computer literacy, knowledge of design and visualization software, scheduling software, and MS Office products including Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with safety guidelines related to industrial plant power distribution.
  • Extensive experience with project management and organizational skills including time management, leadership, and decision-making abilities.
  • Unwavering passion and commitment for promoting safety and environmentally friendly work practices.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with computer applications such as AutoCAD, Revit, eTap, SKM Power tools.
  • Take ownership of mistakes and learn from them to improve an outcome and to share the learnings with others to help them avoid similar pitfalls.

Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge of electrical power distribution, controls, and instrumentation. Required
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with troubleshooting electro-mechanical systems. Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. Required
  • Extensive knowledge of configuration, PLC programming, automation, and setup of protective relays or equivalent for medium and high voltage feeders, incomers, transformers, and motor protection. Required
  • Extensive knowledge of power and control schematics. Required
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with digital and analog design, motor controls, and system implementations. Required
  • Extensive knowledge of general mining operations and practices including above ground and/or underground. Required
