Some of what you'll be doing:

As a Electrician (Wireman) in our Marine Maintenance department, you will perform electrical maintenance, operation and installation work for the Maritime Division.

  • You will be responsible for maintaining power centers, power and lighting panels, Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems, fire alarm systems, Heating Ventilation and Air conditioning (HVAC) motor controls, access control systems, camera surveillance systems, sewer lift stations, gangways, marinas, shore power connections, and metering.
  • You will be responsible for operation, installation, and maintenance of all medium voltage substations, including breakers, vaults, cabling, and terminations.
  • You will be troubleshooting and repairing of electrical equipment.
  • You will be working with other skilled crafts to replace, repair and maintain electrical systems.
Who you are:

  • Critical Thinker – You have the ability to utilize critical thinking and judgment in defining, analyzing and resolving problems.
  • Communicative – You have strong customer service skills with the ability to actively listen and effectively communicate verbally, and in writing. Additionally, you can build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experienced – You have two (2) years of experience as a journey level electrician or equivalent in a commercial and/or industrial environment.
  • Educated – You possess a High School Diploma or equivalent, a valid Washington State EL01 Electricians Certificate, and have completed a Washington State electrical apprenticeship or equivalent.
  • Technical – You have a working knowledge of the National Electrical Code, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Washington Industrial Safety and Health Act (WISHA), and safety requirements.
  • Desired – We hope you have five (5) years working experience as a journey level wireman/electrician in a service, commercial, or industrial environment. Controls experience, fire alarm (FA) experience, Nicet 1, Nicet 2, and/or FA 1 certifications are a plus.

What else you need to know :
  • Work Environment – You will generally work outdoors in all types of weather conditions. You will work in and around all facilities maintained by Marine Maintenance. This will include working in a boat or float, under docks and piers. You will work at heights in manlifts, bucket trucks, cranes, and ladders. You may be exposed to areas of high noise, various hazardous materials, and underground in confined spaces.
  • Overtime Eligible – You are eligible for overtime pay in this role.
  • Work Schedule – Your normal work schedule will be Monday through Friday, 6:00am – 2:30pm (40 hours per week). You may be required to work during electrical outages, emergencies, after hour callouts, both scheduled and unscheduled overtime.
  • Union Representation – This position is represented by International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers union, Local 46.
  • Safety Requirements – You will be required to comply with all work rules, safety, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
  • Washington State Residency Requirement – Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
  • Driver’s License – You will need a valid Washington State Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain one, is required in order to travel locally to project sites.
  • Grade Review – The pay range and grade for non-represented positions are under review and subject to change as part of the Port’s work to implement a new pay program. This review is intended to ensure that positions are aligned with the new program that will be implemented in early 2024.
  • Security Requirements – As the successful candidate, you must obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) within the first three months of employment.
