CLASS SPECIFICATION

Title: Electrician Helper, Outside Level: 4405

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS: Under direct supervision of the Outside Electricians, assist in the electrical construction, maintenance and repair of all outdoor electrical equipment within the Chicago Park District properties and outside electrical jurisdictions. Performs related duties as required.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES: Removes and installs flood, walk and street light poles. Removes and/or installs outdoor lighting fixtures and replacement of lighting fixture components. Operates and uses fish tapes, water pumps, air compressors, air hammers and related tools. Assists Outside Electricians at extreme heights and in manholes. Constructs and rods underground duct lines. Assists in the locating, repairing, removing and installation of electrical cables. Refuses high voltage switches and oil fuse cutouts. Lifts and replaces manhole covers. Cleans and prepares materials for outdoor electricians.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from High School or a GED equivalent. Valid State of Illinois Driver’s License (CDL with air brakes endorsement) is required at time of hire.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of electrical repair and installation principles and practices. Skills in the use of specialized hand tools and test instruments. Ability to compute load requirements for electrical wiring and equipment.
