In this role,the Electrical & Instrument Technician II will be responsible for performing selective maintenance on various in-plant and/or satellite plant equipment. The work will include the proper maintenance and operation of complex electrical systems, computers, controls systems, etc. and equipment that can directly affect the safety and operation of the plant. This position is located in Golden CO and reports to the Maintenance Supervisor and/or Maintenance Manager.
What you’ll do:
- Performs preventive and repair maintenance work tasks on plant equipment
- Utilize a CMMS for writing and completing work orders with notes
- Perform emergency plant electrical/control troubleshooting on plant equipment.
- Perform the housekeeping functions and equipment cleaning necessary to maintain the Plant in a clean and neat condition.
- Maintain records of readings, test results, and data on all assigned equipment
- Installs, tests, calibrates, tunes, programs, repairs and troubleshoots pneumatic, electronic-powered equipment, low/medium voltage, analog and digital process control loop hardware.
- Perform routine plant electrical/control maintenance functions including, but not limited to motors, MCCs, relays, breakers, electrical disconnects of rotating machinery, UPS/battery systems, and all electrical hand tools
- Analyze electrical problems and take appropriate action to correct and advise supervisor when outside assistance from vendors, engineering contractors, and/or consultants is necessary
- Recommend equipment operating and/or maintenance changes, which will enhance unit operation and equipment availability
- Install electrical conduit and pneumatic air tubing
- Maintain all plant electrical/control equipment to the highest possible standard to maximize plant availability, reliability, efficiency, and profitability.
- Conduct predictive maintenance as assigned, i.e. vibration analysis, thermography, lube oil sampling for analysis, component inspections
- Experience working with a CMMS (Computer Maintenance Management System) preferred
What you bring:
- 1+ years’ experience with PLCs and water and gas analyzers preferred
- 4+ years’ relevant experience and/or training; licenses, endorsements or an equivalent combination of education and experience required
- Experience in maintenance of gas and solid fuel fired boiler controls and turbine controls preferred
- 2+ years of that experience in electrical, electronic, and pneumatic instrumentation required (steam/ electrical generation plant preferred) or graduation from a two-year electrical or instrumentation and control program is required
- High School Degree or GED equivalent required, Trade/Vocational School and/or Military training preferred
Additional Information/Conditions:
- Capable of frequently standing; walking; balancing; sitting; climbing (ladders, stairs, ramps, catwalks and the like as required); kneeling; pushing; pulling; lifting (min. 50 lbs)
- Must have some troubleshooting and maintenance skills in CEMs and PLCs, Supervisor Control Systems, low voltage electricity and related control systems.
- Required to have eyesight corrected at 20/40 to accurately read and interpret such as but not limited to instruments, gauges, and manuals
- Areas of the Power Plant can be dusty
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time
- Perform root cause failure analysis techniques when solving plant abnormalities and equipment failures
- Ability to use a company computer, calculator
- Ability to meet highest attendance requirements
- Must be physically capable of wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to half and full-face respirators, fall protection equipment, hardhat, safety shoes, safety glasses
- Comply with all Plant & ENGIE safety programs and ensure every team member complies with all safety procedures
- The Power Plant can be an extremely hot environment

- Ability to handle multiple assignments on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy
- Assist with routine maintenance training and equipment operation training of other site employees
- Perform and document pre-job hazard assessment and provide pre-job briefs as needed

- Capable of performing repetitive motions as required
- Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies

- Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally
- Must be physically capable to hear and understand audible alarms, detect changes in noise levels of rotating equipment and portable radio communication
- Must be able to read, interpret and work with service manuals, blueprints, sketches, technical manuals, control wire diagrams and other written instructions to evaluate all electrical maintenance and logic in accordance with local and national codes
- Required to be on call as needed/deemed necessary by Supervisor/Management
- Must be physically capable of entering and working in a confined space (crawl spaces, shafts, small enclosed areas, pipes and the like) as required
- Strong computer background on PCs, emission controls, and pneumatics.
- Provide assistance with and, to the extent required, coordinate work of maintenance subcontractors with subcontractor supervision
