Job Description

EH&S Leader

Moss landing, CA / OPERATIONS / FULL-TIME

Verdagy is creating a new class of very large-scale hydrogen electrolyzers that will help decarbonize some of the most difficult to abate sectors of our global economy. Our approach is to design large modular skid-mounted hydrogen electrolyzers that will be used to architect very large-scale hydrogen production plants.

As our EH&S leader, you will be responsible for all safety related activities in our facilities including Moss Landing pilot plant operations and lab spaces, future San Jose manufacturing plant and support safety and compliance of our commercial installations as needed. In this role you would use your strong leadership and interpersonal skills to reinforce a safety-first culture in a high pace environment.

Roles and Responsibilities

· Develop, update, and enforce safety policies and procedures to establish a culture of health and safety in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.

· Manage site permits, environmental reports, and communications with local and state officials. Stay up to date with current regulations.

· Manage EH&S documentation communications required by strategic partners and customers.

· Conduct the company's annual safety training and new hire training. Administer supplementary safety training for job specific tasks as needed.

· Manage Verdagy’s Opportunity-for-Improvement program, collect input from employees and complete any follow up.

· Investigate incidents and near misses with involvement from leadership and safety team; complete all required documentation and ensure follow up is done on a timely basis.

· Facilitate process hazard reviews for new equipment and future off site installations.

· Assist in emergency response program delivery including First Aid/CPR training, HAZWOPER training, general emergency response planning, etc.

· Conduct facility wide compliance audits to ensure EH&S program is being followed.

· Work with employees to ensure timely inspection of facilities, machinery and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure compliance with safety regulations.

· Manage hazardous waste, and water/wastewater programs to ensure full compliance. Create new waste streams as needed.

· Maintain chemical inventory and safety data sheets.

· Purchase and maintain PPE for pilot plant and lab employees.

· Provide management and senior leadership with meaningful leading and lagging EH&S data on an ongoing basis.

· Support safety reviews of commercial installation as needed.

· Continue education and knowledge of hydrogen, caustic and chemical industry EH&S related information and technologies as well as new regulations and trends through continuing education, conferences, and/or periodicals.

Prior Experience and Professional Qualities

· Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Engineering, or related field.

· 3+ years of EH&S experience.

· Functional knowledge of Federal and State Safety/Health Laws (e.g. OSHA, EPA, DOT).

· Ability to produce reports and develop relevant policies.

· Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and influence decision making to all levels of the organization.

· Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and other stakeholders.

· Ability to assist in emergency response and meeting the physical demands of the job as follows:

- Use safety equipment that is rated for a person who weighs 300 pounds or less

- Lift 55 lbs, climb stairs and ladders

- Wear all required personal protective equipment including full face respirators (no facial hair allowed)

Preferred Experience

· Prior experience working in a chemical plant, or in the hydrogen industry.

· Experience in an OSHA PSM regulated facility.

· OSHA 30 Hour certification.

· HAZWOPER certified.

· PHA/HAZOP/LOPA experience a plus

Salary Range: $85K – 135K + Equity
